Re: A New Journey Begins for OverEasy
Hi NiceAft
Our SOP Plan A has normally been to use campgrounds with pull-thru sites with electric shore power near to the Interstate when traveling.
This year we headed down later than usual and any campgrounds were already closed up for the winter along our route.
Silly campgrounds… just cause everything freezes up…
The Plan B is to stop at the Interstate Rest Areas and get a couple hours sleep but it was too cold this trip to consider that this trip.
Our younger selves might have considered
it (and maybe thought it romantic) but the current older selves weren’t interested in trying to sleep in an icebox
So that left Plan C which was to find hotels that take pets (
) and parking lots that accommodate sailboats (
)
While definitely not the 1st choice
it works when needed.
While the “Home2Suits” are what worked out for this trip we have also used “Tru” Hotels for the same reasons.
A little less pricey and smaller though still nice places to stay at when enroute.
Gotta say that the “Brook Trout Inn” in Sapphire NC was a real treat for us especially under the circumstances.
While we’d never ever consider towing Over Easy there it is a very nice place to stay at and VERY nice hosts.
We really enjoyed their make your own breakfast galley.
I’ll admit that we took it up a couple notches with a trip to the Ingles Grocery but it was fun.
Someday we’d love to go back in June/July when the Rhododendron Forest is in bloom as it would be gorgeous!
While this was very much a “Roll with the Punches” sorta trip that had us headed to just about all points of the compass
and tested our planning it all worked out in the end (though this year’s boat mod budget took a bit of a hard hit

). But that’s what contingency funds are set aside for. Just gonna have to ration the Rum
allotments for a while…..
We know that we were VERY FORTUNATE that things worked out as well and as controlled as they did.
Things could very well have gone seriously sideways in spite of all our preemptive planning and maintenances.
There are always things in life that are chaos and out of our control that need to be contended with.
My Dad used to say “Stuff happens. Everything can change in a heartbeat. Your goal should be to do the next right thing while you can.”

So potential misadventure becomes adventure and lemons turn into lemonade.

Our New Journey with Over Easy continues……
Best Regards,
Over Easy

Nice reply about Hilton Honors points, but next time the Cliff Notes version.

Hi All
Whew!
The past 28 months have been a whirlwind of adventures for us and Over Easy!
While we liked just having the one log to document our journey with Over Easy it was getting a bit long for the server apparently.
At the suggestion of our forum administrators we are starting a new adventure journey log for the 2023 year.
So here we go!
Welcome to “ A New Journey Begins for OverEasy - 2023”.
