LOL - patchwork quilting for a sail might be just a little too redneck for me!
Mine needs a bit of TLC between the bootstripe and gunnel - nothing major... yet.

Hi, Just bought a 1971 2-22. Boats in good shape except for the normal keel problems. Got all the original sails and they are in great shape! Once I get the keel problem fixed and replace some of the rigging I'll be ready to go. Living in Florida you can sail year around.

If yours does not have the kick-up rudder, invest in one from idarudder as soon as you can. Mine had a one piece rudder when I got it. Keel goes up but rudder does not??? Whats up with that? I finally did modify it to kick up, but it would have been better to get one from idarudder as it looks much nicer.
Check the wire keel cable and replace if it has frayed metal strands!

I have a '74 2-22 I gave 200 bucks for 10 years ago. It's been in my back yard, under a tarp, the entire time. The keel was swollen and trapped in the trunk. It took some work to get that out. The wood under the mast step was rotten, which I cut out and am in the process of replacing. I have stepped the mast a couple times and checked the standing rigging. Redoing the keel will be the big problem.

Took sailing lessons at the local yacht club in Hampton, VA, last summer, got hooked on sailing in the bay big-time,and bought a 1972, 22 last summer. Even as a true novice I had some great sailing days on her before I pulled her out for the winter. Looking forward to going back in the water in April after making some minor repairs and fixes.
I'm looking for an affordable rudder and traveler. Anyone have such parts for sale or know where I could purchase them?

I just learned to sail last summer. I was sooooo hooked that I bought a 1972, Macgregor 22. I love it! I have some rudder issues and wonder if anyone knows where I can purchase an inexpensive replacement. I also need a better traveler system and motor mount (for a 5hp Mercury long shaft). I'd appreciate any advice, suggestions, and information.

Hey everyone - hopefully the winter wasn't too long where you are - sure was long here in Thunder Bay. So our '77 V222 is restored enough that we launched her yesterday - we managed to get a slip at the marina which is a feat in itself. Anyway, after refitting the cabin and rubbing and polishing the hull she is sitting nestled at the dock.
As we were enjoying the afternoon, I went to get a beverage for the Admiral and to my dismay discovered a bit of water in the bottom of the cabin. After cutting up the carpet (was due to be replaced anyway) it seems the leak is coming from the keel pivot bolt - the rubber appears to be dryied up and cracked a bit - I did manage to tighten the bolt and got a bit more squish into the rubber. How tight should this bolt actually be other than for tight enough to seal (haha)??

Exactly right. Tight enough to stop leaking and no tighter. If the rubber degrades, you replace it.

Thanks Catigale! That's exactly what I had done so far (knock on wood) I no longer have a water problem.
