Great Lakes are great - but if you want to spend your time on a hook - anchorages can be few and far between in places and harbors run 30 to 70 per night from Chicago to Milwaukee.
Boat size - better to consider single-handed requirements or look at a site like this for an experienced companion.
I would also consider the Texas and Gulf coasts and plan to run up the Tenn-Tom for the fishing, and fall color during huricane season.
