I saw water spouts in all stages of their life when I lived in Miami but not so much where I am now. They are fun to watch - from a distance.
I did have the Coast Guard announce small craft warnings once when I was about 20 miles offshore totally ignoring their previous forecast earlier that morning when I left my nice, safe anchorage. Don't those guys talk to each other?
By the time they looked out the window and decided to change their mind I'd already dropped the main and was running on the jib with a little help from outboard. It was about 30 miles north, south, or east to a sheltered anchorage. I was familiar with the area and the weather was the same ahead as behind so I kept going.

Wow! Being on the water with water spouts or tornados is not something that ever made it to my bucket list.
Don’t think it ever will either!

Glad you weren’t up close and personal with them!
We had a couple tornados when I was a medic in East Texas and fortunately none of them came down in populated areas.
But the twisted & snapped trees were something to appreciate the forces at play.
Unfortunately the Central, Southern and Northern Midwest, Appalachian and EastCoast the past couple of weeks have been unilaterally with tornados with devastating consequences for multiple communities. We hope that these people and communities can get the help and assistance they need to rebuild given the currently limited resources. We gave to World Central Kitchen which has been one of the organizations that help out along with the American Red Cross. While I haven’t heard if FEMA has mobilized I hope they still can as the areas and people affected are quite numerous.
Hope everyone is safe and have the support they need to rebuild what has been damaged or destroyed.
