It’s a mix of rock, and muddy grass. Some places here the anchor clangs when it hits the bottom. Others, it disappears in the Seagrass
This system allows the use of just one anchor in most cases because it’s so heavy. This makes it much easier than trying to get in two anchors.
I do have a hank on jib. It’s a small working jib which is the norm for me, since Im not in big rush most times. Dogs do not like hull for leather sailing.

Ix that video is wild. What an anchor. What do you think have been your worst conditions anchored out? How many nights a year are you on the water?

“Underworld” for leather, colloquial for going all out
My dogs are casual sailors and do not approve of heeling more than 15 degrees!

I anchor out exclusively. I’ve been spending half the year on the boat in Fl. The heats getting a little challenging these days though. I have been anchored though some fairly bad weather, and the M was a special challenge due to her high windage and other antics at anchor. I managed to drag the anchors I would outfit an ordinary 26ft boat with, and the awkwardness of the kedge type anchors kept me from using them until I figured out how to not have to bring it on deck.
I’ve been out in tropical storm winds certainly gusts of stronger. Of course if I have warning I move to protected, shallow waters.

The actual saying is “hull-bent for leather”…. I’m old enough to have heard it many times. [the forum is replacing the term for place of eternal damnation with hull…. But you get the idea].

Originated in the 1800s, referring to the effect on the leather of a saddle (or perhaps a crop) of riding a horse as fast as possible. Typically used to describe reckless behavior.

Oh. Thanks for that explanation. I have not heard the h3ll BENT for leather version. Interesting origin from horse borne travel.
One of my dogs actually doesn’t mind it. The smaller black one can just ignore the lines, heeling and activity, but the younger dog gets very antsy. And of course they both hate being below if I’m outside.

Actually, your version may have been the original according to Merriam-Webster. My version is apparently the later American fusion….

Have you ever considered adding a fixed or deployable “cathead” crane or boom to help make it easier to manage the deployment and retrieval of your kedge anchor?

Well so far the bow rail is working, and once the anchor is lashed to the deck cleat, there is very little strain on it. I’d like to have a little extra support rail welded in though.
