Facing the galley there are two sliders on the right side but there is only one slider on the left side and it;s at the rear of the galley so one corner is not supported.

Now, just to let you know - when I added the three gallon hot water tank to the back left side of the galley it really stabilized that wobble almost completely, but the hot water tank is not always full so then the wobble would come back when the tank was empty. So I put in the roller to stop the wobble.

If you only want to slide the galley back just far enough so it does not interfere with the aft bunk all you need to do for that setup is put in another slide - that's it. Easy cheap fix.

Got started on the frame today. Frame and hidden stuff will be spruce, pine, fir and sanded plywood. Visible stuff will be cabinet grade plywood and hardwood.

Hey! Why did you peel the paper labels off the wood so I could not read them? I wanted to know where your wood came from!!
Why do you have an engine hoist there? Do you hoist engines??
What's with that hammer? It's all chewed up! Did you try to drive nails with that rubber hammer?
Why does your wood say: "MEETS UNDERPAYMENT REQUIREMENTS" ?
Do you normally keep so much gasoline around?

It turns out your wood is EXT AC 11/32 (whatever that means? :? ) and it came from Chile: (maderas arauco planta teno)

According to the internet Arauco is currently one of the main wood producers.

Do you always get your wood from South America?

Your garage door has foam on the inside just like mine - I hate that foam because when it rains the kids ride their skate boards inside the garage and make dents in the foam.
(I have dents in my foam).

Man, I hate those @&$?! sticky labels that they paste all over wood. Peeling it off (such as I could), was nothing personal aimed at you! :D

Wood came from Home Depot. I usually get basic lumber from them or Lowes because it's close to my house. I have buddies that are actual furniture builders and cabinet makers, so if I need good stuff, I beg one of them to get it.

I've been known to lift a few engines with that shop crane. It's really handy to have around for lifting all sorts of awkward heavy stuff, though.

That hammer was my uncle's. He and my Aunt helped raise us - usually during the summer. They had a house on Mullet Point. He was a marine engineer/naval architect, and a machinist. He and my dad built wooden boats for recreational use. I have a lot of his tools. The resin on that hammer is just old and brittle. I just can't bring myself to toss it. I'm using it to tap the frames around on the template while clamped.

There is a lot of gasoline around. 5 gallons of non-ethanol in the large jug. Small jug is empty - a buddy gave me the small jug to get rid of it... 12 gallons of non-ethanol in the boat; around 20 gallons in the old Mercedes, and several quarts in various small engines. It does make me nervous to weld indoors - even though TIG doesn't throw molten debris like some other processes. Grinding, or cutoff saws are used outdoors.

30 years ago, when we built the house, I didn't have a lot of cash. So, I didn't buy insulated garage doors. Wound up gluing foam on the inside to help the AC. South facing metal doors can get pretty warm here in the summer.

After lunch. I'll finish up the complex frame pieces (notches, odd angle notches, etc), then hopefully it will pick up speed.

Wow, I did not know any of that - you did not need to answer all those question - I just figured I would ask.

Now I am smarter.

(Don't tell your Uncle about me - someday I would like to visit Mullet Point and I want to be welcome)

Unfortunately, my Aunt and Uncle have both passed on... They would have loved to see you. They never met a stranger (no matter how strange the stranger was). They had a young couple wash up on their beach in a partially swamped sailboat during a big storm. They were lake sailors on vacation (as in small inland lake - not Lake Michigan or Superior). At any rate, both were seasick and exhausted. My Aunt and Uncle took them in for the night, fed them, and helped them get their boat back on the trailer the next day. Just one of a pile of similar stories regarding them. Very special people.

Their close friends were as quirky as could be. You probably would have been one of the more "normal" folks that showed up over there. :D

Frames assembled, first dry fit of the skeleton... Read my scale wrong on one of my dimensions early in my design. Didn't catch it until the dry fit. All of the stringers were 2" too long - easily fixed, but a little disconcerting until I figured it out. :?

I just reread this thread from its start. I never had considered a gimbal stove for my boat. Several times I'd been cooking while sailing and even some rolly anchorages, so I'd rig vise grips on the stove grate to keep the pan / pot in place. I've even grilled burgers on the Magna grill while sailing on a favorable tack, after settling the grill to level while heeling!

BTW- your sailing grounds, Mobile Bay, wasn't that the area of some sailing disaster due to a sudden storm many years ago?

Had a bad storm hit the tail end of the Dauphin Island Regatta. A few fatalities, several boats lost. Could have been much worse, but horrible nonetheless.

Built an assembly jig since I'm working alone. Too many parts to try to keep plumb and square while gluing and fastening. Top pic shows the frames clamped to the jig and a couple of the longitudinal members in.

Finished the skeleton basic assembly today. Have some reinforcing brackets and dead wood to add, but I'll probably throw it in the boat tomorrow to make sure I haven't had any senior moments. Fortunately, I have to wait for the glue to dry before I can do much more with it (cause I'm beat). I had to make a glue run this morning, and build the jig, then get the frames on the jig, level, square and plumb everything; then I could make the only assembly progress for the day. I didn't get a lot done, but it took me all day to do it. :D

Trying to use up some of my scrap that has been hanging around - this piece even pre-dates our fire. Unfortunately it had a bodacious (roughly 3/4") crook. Everyone probably knows the old "screw a straight edge on" trick to cut the crook out. A table saw will cut a straight line as long as there is a straight side against the fence... :D

I guess I figured out why I hadn't used that board before now... :) After I got it straight, I cut it in two and used it for the backbone of my assembly jig.

I could assume you've got it figured but thought I'd ask anyway- do you know if this built unit will fit thru the companionway for install?

"That, detective, is the right question"... :D

Theoretically it should. I measured several times. The new galley is the same depth as the old galley. Only a tad taller. It should go in fairly easily. But, stuff sometimes happens.

I'll let you know this afternoon. :)

Well, with the mast down and the pedestal in the way, it's close. But, it will fit. A few shots showing comparative dimensions.

Installed these small brackets at each frame to help take the tension in these joints when I've got a full pot of gumbo brewin on the swinging gimbal... :D The gimbal will be cantilevered from that 2x4.
