I used Perma - gasket liquid paste its oil & gas resistant & yes it never completely dries not sure what ur issue is with that anyway ? unless u plastered it on big time

Well if there are any others wondering which comes first the bulb or the filter I'm now a strictly bulb first kind of guy
This is a pic of what my new racor filter caught in the fuel
This was using a brand new gas tank and new lines so I knew it must have been the bulb ...sure enough I cut the bulb open and found black tar like stuff everywhere....where the fuel had ate away the inner lining of the bulb....if I had put the bulb after the filter all of that sludge would have went into the engine
I would have never thought a primer bulb could disentegrate like that

Yikes, what a mess.
Was the bulb hard to work, or was it still 'normal'? I'm asking because I have a retired bulb and hose that I use to transfer gas (petrol) but after seeing that I'm getting a bit concerned.

No it was working perfectly fine .... last thanksgiving I took the mac to Florida to stay a week on it wouldn't run right for the first 30 mins ...i switched tanks thinking I had bad gas ...and it started running better so I blamed it on bad gas but now looking at that mess I bet it was the bulb....i had been using that bulb without any problems for years

My Merc 75HP 4 stroke has a low pressure fuel filter just inside the engine cowling & then a second high pressure fuel filter on the high fuel pressure side just before the fuel injectors both r transparent filter bodies so u would see the crap inside them , I always check them when I check my eng. oil level
Bu remember if the fuel bulb is that bad so r all the fuel lines external & internal !
