Re: Garbage Management
I think its sad that even paper or food is tossed overboard. You're sailing along on crystal clear waters and a wrapper floats by.... something is lost from the moment. To paraphrase the backpackers.." Leave nothing but wakes."

I agree !
Some paper breaks down immediately , while a plastic coated paper might last a long time .
The only paper we throw overboard is coffee filters . They breakdown very quickly .
That and organic waste such as food scraps .

Biodegradable or not, I can't get myself to dump anything more than 1/2 a can of warm flat beer over the side. Must be the old Boy Scout and Backpacking rules kicking in. Pack it in, pack it out. The Hudson is murky enough.

Is that warm/flat beer before or after you drink it?

Re: Garbage Management
you could have a point about the coffee filters , however , food scraps are a whole nother ball game . Foof compost quickly or is eaten by sea animals . Some things have even been known to plant themselves in the shoreline , such as tomatoes and watermelon .
I cannot see anything wrong with food scraps going overboard in the wide open , of course a marina or anchorage could be another story .
