Our AC pulls 540 watts at startup and a little less at normal operating point so we can run a fan and some lights in combination. Our fuel line is set up to pull off one of two 12 gal tanks for extended runtime. We have strapped it to the top of the motor exhausting away from the boat, however, I plan to add a coupling and hose to the muffler and exhaust a few inches below water level. We've had CM/fire alarm since day one on the boat. Next chance we get we'll try putting it in the dink.

Wow, I need to find out the brand 5000 AC you got as I know my 5100 btu had the lowest draw on the market 2 years ago. Start up at 900 watts, running at 550 to 600 watts.

Purchased at Walmart for $99 ---Oops! my bad, 515 watts running and 598 startup not 540 watts as previously stated.DaveB wrote:Wow, I need to find out the brand 5000 AC you got as I know my 5100 btu had the lowest draw on the market 2 years ago. Start up at 900 watts, running at 550 to 600 watts.

I go by amps AC. and we both got mixed up. My 5050 btu runs on 5.1 amps close to yours at 5.2 amps, startup is at 7.5 amps. These are 115 volt AC.
Your start up should be around 7.5-8 amps.,running at 5.2 amps, all at AC115 volts.

Yup, 515 is the AC energy output expressed in watts, not to be confused with electrical input.

Re: help choosing on board power setup
If you are concerned with energy consumption an instaneous watt meter can be useful. Plug in any appliance and they tell you the actual line voltage, amp draw and wattage being consumed. I was surprised to find that manufacture specs were grossly under on just about everything I tested except for lightbulbs. Some items like pumps were manufactured specified to be about half of what they actually consume. You can get a kill-a-watt model for about $20 online or pick up a similiar one at the local hardware store. I found it helpful on cutting down my home electricity bill too.
