Now I’m in trouble – I have a choice of two different ones!

What now?? Anyone have an opinion on what is better: The one with the swivel or the one that is a permanent angle??

Which way to go??

Get the one with the swivel so you can trim the headsail from different places in the cockpit. I bought them two years ago at the Annapolis boat show and they are a great addition

@seahouse: I have them as far back as possible and never change the position. The sheets go through the Genoa cars first which can still be adjusted as needed. My bimini mount is not on the tracks.

Ah ha, that's it. In my head I had the genoa cars replaced by this unit, instead of supplementing them. Doh! :(

Thanks Sea Wind.

From another thread on this forum a while back, I bought the Garhauer (http://www.kellyhansonmarine.com/apps/w ... ow/1504274). Swivel ones. Downside is you can't adjust on the track, but I too just set them as far aft as possible. Very easy access, convenient. PO used to attach genoa sheet to aft cleat which was accessible but a pain to adjust.

Yeah, Gil at Garhauer got me all set up today and is sending the set with cars an swivel cams. The part about being able to operate from any angle got me moved to thier set up. I originally went for the Kelly Hansen solution but I could not find anyone over there to help me. I think they are changing owners or moving or something - (the lights are on, but nobody's home).

You guys have been a great help - I like the feel of the Genoa Sheet in my hand when racing.

Yup I did see them on your boat, John. (That’s partly why I want a set myself). But I've seen a lot of nice stuff on your boat that I want! :D

As I recall, the factory-supplied, upright spring mounted genoa cars are absent on your boat.(?)

I’ll likely order a set this week to take advantage of the free shipping.

Brian,
I have been following this tread, and for my interest as a Trailer Sailer use the good info for my needs.
I want and do launch and retrive my boat in 15 min. from launch site.(that I do now)
I don't want any extra lines, tie offs or interferance in my launch time.
That being said I consider a Ball bearing pully mounted at mast at a height equal to the jib traveler and use one of these track mounted swivel mounted cams that can also have a 180 degree swing at base from port to starboard.
This is for the main sheet, I have a 105 jib and consider it perfect for winds in my area as I turn on the Iron genny when GPS over ground goes below 1.5-2 knots or if I decide I want to be someware in a faster time.
A good mounted main sheet fully secured on Jib trac is what I plan, having same setup for Jib sheets same thing on the Jib track. Both will have sheet lines pulling in opisite directions,so no interfearance.
those who have the 150 genoa have no problems leading sheet lines aft with the cam mentioned.

seahouse wrote:Hmmm. In the pix it looks like you need to use a (Phillips) screw driver each time you want to reposition the cleat. But can that be? They need to be easily movable for sail tuning, and for easy boarding. The forces experienced by this unit from the sheets at the rails would be less than with the factory sheave configuration (by about half, actually, not considering shear, and angle), so it needn’t be any stronger than it.

I believe I’ve seen these with a sprung pin (like the factory unit) that facilitates rapid position changes, but it looks tight in there for space, and it would make for a more vertical profile.

Part of the reason I have not been more aggressive in buying is because I like to see exactly what it is first. I might have ended up disappointed had I purchased and ended up with these? Or not. Please someone tell me I am all wet about this. Bill? Anyone? Maybe, in practice, it's not necessary to reposition it much, so this is a good compromise?

Thanks for posting the pictures taime1. Worth 1000 words.

-Brian.

Ha ha tkanzler- the “Sailors” pic, right on :D :D :D . I like it!

Hold on there! You can't go by Captain Highlander's setup! His boat is on steroids! Have you seen that ship?? It's not a sailboat - it's a schooner!!

The Flying Dutchman could not catch that skipper in a gale!

You can't go by his rig - he is in a different class altogether.

I have been very aware of Highlanders Super Sailing Mac. since he began his project.
There is one point I can beat him every time he Launches and Hauls his boat at a Ramp. Called rigging time. :)
More than a 15 degree heel , I slip slide away and hard to get back up at my age.
I still like the old phrase of, ( don't like going higher than corn nor lower than digging potatoes). :?
Now Crank my Tractor!! :D
