You might want to hold off on picking up an IBM. Their whole PC business is up for sale, including their laptops. The leading contenders to buy it are Lenovo Group, Chinas biggest maker of personal computers and Toshiba in Japan.

Currently IBM is number #3 behind Dell #2 and HP(/Compaq) #1. PC's were 10% of IBM's business but less than 1% of it's profits.

Might actually be a good time to buy an IBM. 8) This may be the last time you can still get a genuine IBM PC (the original brand).

As part of the sale, I doubt they will give up their brand which means the IBM branded PC may soon be extinct.
