Also, what is that bracket pin for? It's supposed to mount on the pedestal, with the end of the pin just below the rim of the drive wheel. The mounting base is curved for a round pedestal, and the surface I will need to mount it on is flat.
The pin is to hold the wheel case in place and prevent it rotating. The motor tube is free-floating, so it would rotate if the wheel case was not anchored. Raymarine makes an adaptor for a flat surface mount. Being cheap (I know,if I were really cheap, I wouldn't own a boat

), I decided to anchor the motor tube (and thus the entire case) by passing it through a fixed plate. I used a piece of cutting board mounted to the pedestal. I added a piece of soft foam around the motor tube to keep it from rubbing directly on the plastic. You can see the back of the arrangement below Josh's left hand. If it ever stops snowing I'll try to get a shot from the front. It does put the clutch in an unusual place, but I grew accustomed to that easily. I've got a larger wheel, so I don't know what the clutch arrangement would be like with the standard one. I've used it this way for several years with no problems.
