I bet if he played with the prop pitch, had a fresh waxed boat bottom, nil extras and 1 up, he could get 35+ easy.

Well I was "Finally" able to get the throttle linkage squared away. I took the boat for a little spin. With my Pops' gps we got to an indicated speed of 31.6 mph. That was with three adults on board and some stuff down below. I know I should have changed it to knots but why do I need something else causing a mess on the boat. The steering linkage on the boat is longer then what is on the Nissan. I will have to cut a new hole closer in to make me more then happy with this motor. At full throttle it is a lot quieter then the Nissan and it had more speed to boot. I am bidding on an oil tank now so that I don't have to hear the buzzer going off. I poured oil into the tank with my ratio bottle. Even though this is a rebuilt '95 it still exceeds my expectations. I think the company that I bought it from did a good job remanufacturing it. Well ya'll have a good day and happy speeding, Tony
Congratulations for this change.

Could you also send some pictures.

One thing, I dont understand that if 50hp could give 22 mph, than how come 115 hp only gives 31 mph. What propeller are you using.

Because of increasing resistances as the speed increases, the power to speed curve is not 1:1. Doubling your power will not double your speed. To put it into relationship:

If it takes 2HP to move your boat at 2kts, then it will take 8HP to move it 4kts. To go to 8kts, you would have to go to 32HP and to get to 16kts, 128HP. These figures are not relevant to any particular boat and are just used to show the relationship of HP to speed. Also, there is an S bump in the curve when transitioning from displacement to plane. HP is in Shaft HP not Brake HP.

Shehzad and Others,
When I had the Nissan 50 on originally and brand new I could not get 22 mph. I think the best that I could do was 21 with just me on board and very little else. I did notice that the tach was showing 5200 rpms. It think it is supposed to be in the 5500 rpm range. I doubt that I will switch the prop to get the last few rpms. I like the way the motor pushes the boat up on plane and just scoots along. It is so much quieter then the Nissan. I will be posting pictures of the install probably on Thursday. If you want anything specific please ask. I think the prop size is 13 3/8 x 17. The 7 is crossed out on the prop so I don't know what size it really is. I am still winning the auction for the tank. I hope I win the auction so it makes life easier. Have fun, Tony

One other thing,
With the Evinrude 115, I am able to tilt the motor all the way up without it hitting the underside of the captain's chair. Yeah. I have about an inch and one half for clearance. Now I need to go and cut a new hole for the ball unit on the steering arm. Tony

Tony,

When you are going in a fast speed, have you noticed any change in the water shower as compared to 50 hp, as I am having lot of water splash coming into the cockpit, whenever I go beyond 10 mph. I have 50 FT Yamaha on 26 M.
Is there also any big difference with the plaining of the boat ?
What is total weight of your engine ?
Could you also please let me know, how much is the difference of thickness in your wedges, from one end to another. In other words, how much is the angle in access to the transom. I am asking this, as I would also be looking forward for changing to 115 hp yamaha and in my country, I would not find wedges, therefore, I would be creating this myself from some workshop.
What is your boat, 26X or M
Could you also send me some picktures or video, directly to ****************.

Shehzad,
I placed the Smart rails on my boat. They decrease the spray tremendously. I would recommend them to everyone. I bought two sets so they go almost all the way to the rear of the boat. They really need to go to about where the cockpit starts in my opinion. Here is the link to the product:
http://www.thesmartrail.com/
Yes the boat truly gets up on plane. I noticed that the spray of the "bow" wave was about where the cockpit started. I trimmed the boat bow high to get the speed to increase. I think the engine weighs in the 350 lb range. I am not sure I would have to look it up. I did not install the wedges. If you wanted you could buy the wedges from me and I would mail them to you. If not I could get the measurements to you later on tonight. I will try to get some pictures and videos and send them to you. Look for the pm or email icon in my profile to the right. I have a '98 X. if you have any other questions just ask. Have fun, Tony

I goofed and thought the profile was to the left.

Hi, Shehzad -

The guys are right, we don't allow folks to post any sort of personal information here in the forum, and that includes email address, 'real' address or phone numbers. This is entirely for the protection of the members themselves, since hackers and spammers love to troll forums to get email addresses for spamming or for personal information to hack in other ways. Further, it helps reduce the chances for any personal harassment in case of a future disagreement here or elsewhere.

As noted, you have two choices... you can always send a Personal Message (PM) within the forum by clicking the button which Currie helpfully noted. Also, if the person has a little 'envelope' icon -----> (see it next to my "PM" icon on the right of this post?), and this can send mail directly to the person's off-forum email account. At that point the person can reply to your email directly and you can begin a more personal conversation off-forum. (If you wanted to add the email icon to your own forum postings, you need to enter an email address in your personal profile.)

I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Kevin

Tony, I noticed that they are also making a product called "FAST-RAILS®" - they allow boats to come up on plane earlier. I wonder how this would work on a Mac?

Kevin and Others,
If you look on their website you will have a hard time finding a picture of the Fast Rail. I could not but then again I did not look too hard. The Smart Rails are a great product. If you do any type of motoring in large chop they will pay for themselves in no time quick. The first time out I was satisfied. The boat is a lot drier to the point that I don't get wet any more unless there is surface spray from the waves. I would like to take the bigger motor out and get some video to show y'all the effect. I just uploaded some videos of the Smart Rails when they were newly installed on the boat. I tried to get into some waves but I could not find many near the pier where my Pops was standing. Here is the link again for the videos of the rails:
http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r50/ ... at%20Pics/
I also placed a picture of the wedges. Shehzad the wedges run the length of the motor mount. As you can see the top hole has a vertical adjustment along with the bottom hole. If you were to install them you would place them under the bolts and tighten them down. My hole shot keeps the bow down enough that I am not going to use them. I am going to place them back on eBay.

Frank, thanks for the Photo's and I can see your system is much better useing the C Channel for strength across the stern.
I plan on installing a 75-90 hp and plan on reinforceing the stern. Previouse owner's raised the Honda 50 to far above Ventilation plate and I can see holes drilled and not epoxied or any means to protect water from entering these holes.
I will 4200 them for the time being until I am ready to take out motor.
The only reason for putting on the larger engine is for summer's down here with no wind and will take off mast and use as a power boat. Also for the lets go and launch now day trips.
