The line looks like a cheap nylon braid like the ones you find in plastic bag at Home Depot. They will never wind well. Try a yacht braid Sta-Set line from a marine supplier like West Marine. It will stay straight and lay in nice as you take in on the furler.

Craig, You dont need the extra block. That is the way Boating Atlanta had mine rigged. Just take it off because it gets tangled up. The Genoa sail needs to be attached to the line that runs though the block on the plastic sheath. I dont know why they rig the extra hailyard because you have one at the top of the mast for the main sail.

You have to run the line through your hands a few times & get all that twist out of that line or any other line you plan on using & then keep some tension on the line when unfurling to get a smooth rewind if you don't do this you will get the same problem regardless of what furling system you use , every time you coil a line you will put some twist into it I constantly run my lines to remove any twist in them " All lines "
The extra block is your jib halyard also used for your assy spin if you have one it is better to add an extra mast hound 9" or more above it and install it there if you have a spinn

And in your latest pic the line wrapped around your furler definitely looks like it was "loose" as it wrapped.

Make sure the small pulleys/blocks that lead your furler line from the furler to the cockpit are positioned such that the furling line is running into the furler drum at a "good" angle (going in near the middle of the furler and not rubbing against the top or bottom or against a support post)...

and keep tension on this line as the sail comes up so you get a nice tight wrap on the furler.

I think you can get that thing working.

I am sure you fixed this by now. i have same furler from same dealer...and i put the mast raising system on the boat. disconected the forestay...and unscrewed those 4 phillips screws. then unwound the entire spool and rewrapped it. put the screws back together and was done...15 minutes tops.

but there was no turnbuckle under the spool?

And i do not know what the top of my furler looks like but if yours was wrong and mark's was wrong i assume mine is too?

The new Mac furler (late 2007 on) doesnt have a forestay turnbuckle anymore (the CDI turnbuckle is under the drum of course).

Per factory - "forestay tension is adjusted by adjusting the shrouds"
