I remember motoring up the channel in Cleveland in 2002 in an Ericson 32 (now sailed on Lake Ontario) on a delivery cruise. There was so much wind we could only make 1 1/2 knots !!
We had left Lorraine in the morning, trying to make 50 miles a day on the way through the Welland canal in ONT, but 8-10 footers changed those plans pretty quickly. Skipper and I had thought of sailing at night, but once we saw how hard it was to find the Cleveland harbor entrance in broad daylight in heavy seas, we changed those ideas too
The rest of the cruise was so great, I decided (and still do today!) to retire on Lake Erie and Ontario fresh water cruising.
we used to do alot of walleye fishing up there with trips thrown in, not so much into fishing now and got rid of the walk around cuddy long ago. we still like to take the skis to put in bay for the day. most of what ive encountered over the years on erie is heavy "chop" that seems to come out of nowhere and it beats you to death, hard to make headway in it and gets you very wet! but can get calm just as quickly, but we love cruising up there and look foward to getting better with our .to plan some trips in the great lakes. right now we are in the stage of planning our fith keys trip this winter, with our jet boat though. we would love to take our down there, hopefully next year as we need some more sailing experience to feel comfortable traveling with it.
Hello,
I've been playing with video posts and came across my old vacation video from 2004. Just for grins I posted some of the sailing shots from the archive. I was doing pretty good keeping up with a Freedom 30. Fortunately we were both shooting video of each others boat at the same time.
Here's a pic of Andrea my granddaughter and I standing watch in the rain. She's the one who will continue the legacy.
"Make it tip grandpa Don," the only DNA sample that loves sailing.
"Honest, it looks bigger on the trailer"
Appearing dwarfed at the dock. Maybe it shrinks in cold water!

Wow that is totally cool... You should post the original for contrast, of course I'm sure the original won't win the photo contest - it is the "painting" which is real art.
Pictures from this year's B.E.E.R. Cruise are still rolling in. I just saw this one today and I really like it. Stephanie, from S/V Cajun took it as the storm rolled in.
