Tempo Value 6 fuel tanks

I bought 2 of the Tempo Valu-6 (as Duane pictures) but never used 'em.
Tempo closed out the Valu-6 product line a couple of years back.

I prefer the DuraTanks, though they are more than double the cost of the Tempo line.

I could not find these tanks on WM or Boatersworld.

But I did find this Moeller 12-Gal Tank.
Does anyone know if this will fit under an seat? There is also a low profile one but it looks like it may be too wide.

Sorry this took so long Jim but yes it will fit . I have one of those and then on the other side I have 2 - 6gallon units not sure of the make in fact I only now carry the 1 -12 and 1 -6 I have yet to use more than 10 gallons in a season

To my ever helpful Mac sailing buddies,

In my never ending search for upgrades to my that I haven't seen in over a year I am re-opening this thread on fuel tanks.

My current 12-gal tank has a permanently installed fuel line routed under the starboard cockpit seat into the engine well and then into the engine. My plan is to buy a second 12 Gal Fuel Tank(the low version) for the port side, then cut the hose out of the current tank and install a Moeller Connector on the end of the hose, and then install a Moeller Fuel Tank Connector on each of the tanks. The hose would then be re-routed to run inside the cockpit (as opposed to underneath) and I can unplug the hose from the empty tank to switch to the other tank when necessary.

At least that is the way that Bastonjock (the only other Mac I have really ever been on) has his set up. And from what I understand in these other posts that is the way that others have their set up.

I presume I can cut the hose out of my current tank and somehow "patch" the hole and then install the fuel connector on the front side for access from the cockpit. Or will I need to buy 2 of the gas tanks. And how does one attach the connectors to the fuel tanks...is there additional hardware or do I just drill the right size hole, screw in the connector and seal it with some sort of sealant?

I may need to buy a new fuel hose as my current one may not be long enough (not sure about that yet).

Am I missing anything? Other issues I need to consider?

jIM,I have seen those tempo tanks for sale here in the UK,if i decide to go up to a 24 gallon fuel set up,i was going to copy duannes set up.

Those 6 gall tanks are heavy enough,can you imagine trying to carry a 12 gal tank accross the mud to glissando?

I have a single 12-gal tank now that is permanently installed (sort of...the fuel line and sending unit and wiring for fuel gauge are installed).

So I fill it using 5-gal carry on jugs, or at a marina fuel dock. So having 2 x 12-gal tanks will not be an issue for me. My 12-gal tanks will most likely always stay on the boat.

But I need to figure out how to modify the tanks and the fuel line to make it switch between tanks like you have...I got the idea from your setup. Did you do any of that yourself or did it come that way?

Does one just drill a hole near the bottom of the tank and screw in one of those male fuel connectors (as linked to in my previous post) and then just insert the female connector into the end of the fuel line?

Jim, I swapped out one of my 12 gal Tempo tanks for 2 6 gal Dura tanks. Here
I have one single fuel line with a quick conection to each fuel line. I can now easily remove an empty tank and refil at local gas station. No more $5 marina gas! It was another great idea that came from some one on this forum.

Also if your tempo tanks are installed like mine the connection is a trip hazzard. The 6 gal dura tanks installed with the connection outboard will allow you to route the fuel line clear .

I'll be down to the boat latter and I'll take a picture and post latter.

Jim, don't be drillin' on any fuel tanks ... Unnecessary~!

They always have a pickup tube, either molded-in or installed by the factory. They usually come with a male barb for the female bayonnet fitting. If not, they'll have an empty threaded port to which you'll attach your chosen male adapter.

Search on Duratank repair to see some detailed pictures of my ordeal over the failure of pickup tubes.
Those pix will provide some context for ya.

Thanks for the info. I would like to see those pics...are they like the ones Duane posted several posts earlier in this thread?

I guess I can go 2 x 6-gal tanks on the port side...especially if I am making the fuel line a "quick disconnect -- quick connect" type. Just won't have the 6-gal tanks "hard wired" with fuel level sender for my fuel guage which I do have on my 12-gal on the starboard side.

Also thanks for the info. I will search for the link you mentioned and look it over...did a lot of searching already, surprised I missed it somehow. But on my current 12-gal tank I don't think I have the molded in pickup tube. I wish I had a picture of the fuel line...looks sort of crude IMO...done by the PO I guess. Not sure how I would install the "quick connector" to this tank.

I am curious. Now that the old factory tanks have been discontinued by the manufacturer, what is MacGregor recommending for the new boats?

I wonder if MacGregor is working with another manufacturer to produce a 12 gallon tank that will fit under the seats of the 26M?

Excellent pics. My tank looks like your 12-gal tank...except I don't have a quick-disconnect thing-a-ma-bob. My fuel line runs into the tank through a hole in the bottom of the tank on the aft/bottom/front corner. Looks sort of crude the way the hole is sealed up...don't think it was done by a dealer. There is another hole cut in the bottom/aft end of my fuel locker and the hose runs under the cockpit to the engine. No fuel line in the cockpit.

In the end I want my set-up to look just like yours. Did those 6-gal tanks come with the quick-connects or did you have to add those after you bought them.

Also like your companion door. Very nice.
