On the rules ...Im pretty sure the regs state what lights you shall display and also state these are the only lights you shall display - so running with spreaders on is probably verboten per regs.

That being said if I were on Ontario and thought a freighter on course didnt see me at night, I would light everything up like a Christmas tree regardless....

:|

On edit - lighting up is NOT the primary safety mechanism of course, Rule one is stay the h*** out of the way of freighters.

In that case.... I would be lighting up the sails..... best way to be seen as far as I'm concerned.

In fact.... forget the lights... that's time for the iron Genny and get the heck out of the way :o

Louis- Is Casual the brand name. All of the Loew's around me are out of them, but maybe I can find them online. Loews does have a 12 pack "casual" solar lights but I don't know if they're the same. I've been burned (bad choice of wording) by solar lights before, so I'm judging by how bright you say yours are. Thanks in advance for any info.

Midget--sorry, I didnt see your post & question sooner.

I have a new box set picked up on clearance. The only things on the carton are: "Solar Accent Lighting" & the Lowes item #111487 (stainless steel & bright white LED). Frank posted a nice picture of the item earlier in this thread.

edit add: The Lowes store I shopped at has an inventory of 6 cartons remaining on the shelve, (Rosenberg, Texas) clearance priced at $22. per carton. There are 6 lights in each carton. A nice bargain in my opinion.

We did the same thing only got them at Harbor Freight in Everett WA.
So if you have a store near by is worth a try, if not this is the on-line address:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=92122

We paid a whooping $12.00 for 2 and now they are on sale for $9.99. They seem to be as good as any we looked at that have a bigger $$.

I don't quite get that salty feeling with these garden lights. Oh, now I get it, octopus' garden in the sea. :D

I'll have to look for these ones. I've tried several solar garden lights they just don't give off enough light to help much. Plus I keep loosing them over the side. It's become a big joke in my family, betting on how long the next set will last before I knock one into the drink.

I went for a late evening sail last night and came in quite late. The view of the city lights was amazing from the dark lake, but adjustments and eventually dropping the sail was a little tricky in the dark and my big flashlight was too bright.

I like to use them inside the cabin as well (save battery juice and the cabin lights are just too bright anyway) and in the cockpit to eat or read by while on the hook, but none I've tried are really bright enough for this either.

I have a set of these:

http://www.sollight.com/products/raillight.cfm

They come with stanchion mounts and rail clamps, they are stainless steel and I can read easily with just one. They run all night on a days charge and are over a year old. However, they are much more expensive than garden lights.
