WoW

Post by Terry »

:o IMPRESSIVE CURRIE!! :o
Too bad you are not out here on the west coast as I'd lend you my '03 M for the prototype, of course I get it back when you finish. :D :P
I retire in a couple years so I will be following this one to copy in mine. The '03 does not have the battery hump at the base of the companionway ladder so there would be a larger entranceway. Love the concept though. Why don't you come out to the west coast and remodel mine for me. :D It just amazes me what can be done with these little boats.

Thanks Rockman,

My mind hasn't yet wandered up to the other end the boat, but I thought the same as you - I might sit on that seat if I was waiting in line for the head, but otherwise, probably not. Your idea sounds very cool - I was just thinking storage for clothes, etc. - maybe a place to store a custom mid-cabin dinette (03/04). I've seen some great mods here.

As for my drawing, FWIW, I cheat like hull. I line-trace a brochure pic, scan that into the computer, maybe erase some areas first in PhotoPaint, print a bunch out, then just doodle away and scan that. It's funny, but the twice scanning does something to the textures that's really cool - it doesn't look as good on the paper :P.

Cheers,

~Bob

Hehe, a trip to the West Coast sounds great, of course you could send it to Michigan - I'll work on it, try it out for a while - then send it back...I swear!

Thanks!

Ladder Support

Post by Andy26M »

I love the sketch!

Re: losing support by modifying the ladder: I'd think you could incorporate equal support into the "door frame" of the new bulkhead to support the companionway, thereby allowing a more mobile set of removable steps.

Great sketch Bob

The only point I would make is that I could not fit in there.

With my '07 M, while laying in the aft birth, I JUST fit, head to toe. You pic shows that the mod section would be around 12 inches or so deep, all aft of the seats.

Mind you, I could always sleep at an angle, but then the Admiral wouldn't like that.

Great mod if you are .... um.... shorter than me. 8)

Cheers

Hi Beene,

Yeah, I mentioned that above, in this thread (the M.C Escher comment). I accidentally just connected the lines from top to bottom without taking note that there was a depth difference. I have a new sketch that fixes it - it only takes about 3/4" off the berth depth. If you're interested, I'll post the new one too. Thanks!

Beene,

We've always found it much nicer to lay across the aft berth.

Why not have the ladder fold in half and swing up behind the companionway hatch. It could use some gas struts to hold it up. You reach up and pull it down to exit and just place your foot on it from topside to enter. It folds and unfolds automatically and is always out of the way. It could be configured to be locked in the down position, when desired. As others have mentioned a couple of small compression posts, built into the bulkhead on either side of the opening, would support the deck.

Hmmmmm

....na my wife and I would not have enough...umm.... head room to accommodate the.... er....um... various positions we..... rrr...aaa... sleep in.

So far, I have really come to appreciate the height and open concept of the opening to the aft birth.

But then again, we tend to be a bit.... unconventional in the way we... sleep.

To be fair, I will embark on a quest this summer to determine whether we could... make it work... sleeping.... across the boat instead of inline. I hereby do solemnly swear to give her a go at least 20 times, in a 1 week period, and, if at the end of that time, we are without visible bruising from coming into contact with the cockpit floor above, we will, from that moment forward, sleep across the birth.

8)

Cheers

Bordering on too much information, Beene.

We remove the Mac cushions from the stern berth and use a foam hide-a-bed mattress, either for-and-aft or athwarthsip. Fitted sheets and regular size blankets will fit it.
Or, you could just put it on top of the Mac cushion.
The Mac cushions are just made to fill up the space.
