You can straighten the shroud adjuster with just two pairs of pliers. We did it after a similar incident in the parking lot raising the mast and they got tangled up. still alittle bent but does not seem to bother anything. As Frank says you can cut up PVC or better yet some hose and install as turnbuckle protectors. Can't hep you with the wing on wing. We still do accidental gybes occasionally. Pretty exciting stuff!!

BTW ... you'll slip on those shroud covers when the mast is down & shrouds are slack. Be certain to distinctly mark both parts of all four adjusters, channel and slide, for the exact holes they're pinned with. Don't want to be changing that rig tension, unawares.
Second note: when you bent that adjuster during the mast raising it could mean that you also placed quite a bit of asymmetric strain on your rig, port vs. starboard. Take a close look at both spreaders, just to be sure one of them wasn't bent during the exercise. While at it, you can remove one or the other at the mast bracket. Look for abnormal scoring where the spreader inserts into the bracket (the 26X bracket causes scoring on the spreader, maybe not for the 26M). Bent or scored spreaders are pretty common. You might sail for a long time without fixing them, but it does somewhat increase the risk of a rig failure.

Re:
Researching getting turnbuckle boots and found an old thread of mine from 2007. Never pulled the trigger back then but think I will do so this XMas. Frank id'd the 1-3/4" boots from WM but then mentioned 3/4" PVC. Can anyone confirm what size boots I would need. I will go ahead and get the WM boots with the cap.Frank C wrote:Not being flip, but practical. I just hacked some foot-long sections of 3/4" PVC pipe, and slipped them on the shrouds - no caps at all. It not only saves $35 on those prices, but it also avoids another trip to We$t Marine.c130king wrote:Turnbuckle Boot, 1-3/4"ID x24"L Only $8.99 USD
ETC.
Which of these sizes (from the WM website) is the right one for a 2005M?
Each trip avoided saves a minimum of ~150 bucks - which is their 'admission fee' right?
Thanks,
Jim

For what it's worth, common everyday electrical tape can do the same job of keeping the adjusters straight.
Just wrap it around the 2 pins, two or three layers, and it will keep the unit stiff, plus stops the pins and rings from catching and messing up the sail.
Cheaper, equally effective, and easy to find and use.

Re: Bent Stay Adjuster
Hardcrab,
No doubt that will work. And I will probably do that until I get the boots. But to be honest, I like the look of the boots. I already have the white plastic shroud covers...but they are a royal PITA to get on. I gave up the first time I tried but I will work at it some more over XMas.
I had the hardest time this past trip home getting the ring-dings connected on the shroud-to-chainplate connection so for three of them I had the ring-ding on the outside where the sheet could grab. I had to be careful. I think if I go with the boots I can continue to put the ring-dings on the outside and not worry.
So what size boots? Anyone got these things recently and remember the size?
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Bent Stay Adjuster
I used 12 inches of 1 inch clear soft PVC hose from the hardware
Works great and soooo easy to put on
