Yes, there has been a significant reduction of traffic here in N. TX but most of it is due to the high temps. The biggest boats though are staying in their slips, running the ACs and partying like boats are merely floating hotels, instead of means of transportation to adventure.
I'd like to think some of them spent so much money on the $760K boat, and $4K per month slip, that they can't afford fuel to go anywhere. The biggest boats here are invariably the most rude, and most dangerous to other boaters when they are out on the water.
Less power boats on water due to gas?

One less Sailboat on the water due to high gas prices.. That is me. I live about 130 miles south of lake Erie. The wind is free but getting the boat there is very expensive. The booming econony doesn`t help me and I got bills to pay so I just decided to keep the boat at home until I get back to work. By next summer Iraq should be liberated and thier oil pumping at full capacity leading to a drop to $1,00 a gallon, all the illegal foreign cheap labor deported and I get my union job back and we all sail happily ever after.

We've got our boat at Oolagah Lake about 30 minutes NE of Tulsa, Ok. Labor Day weekend was about as busy as the other three or four prior to it. Oolagah is a Corps Of Engineers lake, which means private development is not permitted and there is only one marina on the lake, so that keeps traffic down and I like that as a newer sailor. There are about 100 to 120 sailboats slipped there out of 200 craft total- amazingly, we have the only MacGregor up there. I was disappointed to see only about 1/4 of the sailors active over the weekend, and most of the motorcraft that were there didn't come out of slips at the marina. I'm not sure how other lakes in NE Okla. fared, but the marina owner told me this Labor Day was a huge disappointment.
Also traffic around Tulsa late on Sunday and all day Monday told me not many people made it out of town over the weekend. I guess gas hasn't slipped back low enough yet.
Including gas to get there and back and provisions, I don't think we spent more than $75 and had a great time, spending two days on the boat. I sure love the fuel economy of a sailboat!
