The regular ones are OK but not nearly as thick. Depending on how much you use them the padding might eventually compact enough that you will feel the aluminum frame (happened in my father-in-laws original chairs)
The new ones are thicker and more comfortable.
Trav White wrote:In response to the cushions that Ssichler posted, there is also a regular version of the go-anywhere chair. The last pages of the Boat U.S. magazine has them for sale at $29.99 or the newest Sail Magazine has a West Marine ad for "Buy one, get one free" at $59.99.

I'm not sure how well these work, but if anyone has one, please let me know.

Frank C wrote:Try throwing a scrap of closed-loop carpeting on the fiberglass. Benefits include:
  • Definitely low-cost;
    Can't absorb any significant water;
    Helps the dog keep her footing;
    Keeps you from sliding around;
    Cures those circulation cramps from unforgivingly hard seats;
    It's the epitome of easy stowage, just roll-em up, toss way-back.
Fact is, I just asked boat-bimimi guys to sew up a pair for me, with those nicely bound edges.

As for the seat backs, WEAR YOUR PFD! :D
Great idea, Frank! I was thinking he'd do well to make carpets for the cockpit floor as well - beats the heck out of anything else I can think of for that surface. I used to have carpet on mine, but the edges got all frayed and such. (BTW, send you a PM.)

I have found it difficult to get the snaps to engage on the factory cushion backs.

I feel your pain about not having the cushions maybe someone elso on this forum has had sunbrella ones made and will sell you their old ones.

That is how I got my set of factory ones.

But... the factory ones do take on water!!!

Jeff and Jean, check this website out. I saw it in Sail magazine last night. It looks like they have anything you might want.

for what reason, this post was entered by me into the wrong thread, or at least it belongs more here....

This is from a previous thread, with my posting of alternative cockpit cushions with photos...

Just wanted to thank everyone for your replies and all the good advice. So far, we're thinking we may go for broke and have some custom cushions made. However, thought some of the other suggestions were excellent, and we're still considering other options.

Thought the carpet option for the seats and floor was good and reminded me of another idea I saw somewhere - hope it wasn't this site - if so, please forgive the repeat. Someone suggested those interlocking foam squares for your cockpit floor. They're supposed to be available at Home Depot in the flooring dept. and supposed to be very inexpensive. Can easily be cut and trimmed to size. The person that suggested them loves them and says they do not get slippery and feel wonderful on bare feet. We're going to check this out and will let you all know. Our biggest question is wondering if these come in a light color that will work in the hot sun and also want to be sure they are safe and not slippery.

Thanks again everyone. Happy sailing.

foam squares that are not perforated, will make trouble for the floor, stuff will get caught under them, they will hold moisture, water, lots of it, and make a moldy mess. Need lifting and cleaning underneath, constantly.
