To any who are interested, this is a link to some photos taken of my Mach28 on our first day out. My brother was taking some guys out on our Bolger Folding Schooner on the same day and, by chance, one happened to have a camera.

Sundowner- Mach28

We had 4 on board, but not much gear. Hadn't even put the name on yet.

Peter, what HP is your Etek? Can you give some feedback on speed at different RPM's and fuel consumption? How would you judge the noise level at cruising speed?

Jeff

I had reported some of this in the thread on NZ designers, but a quick summary is:

The motor is an ETEC 90.

When lightly loaded but with 4 people-

WOT (5,500 rpm) gave 19.1 knots.
Cruising (4,500 rpm) gave 17+ knots.

When loaded with lots of gear-

WOT gives about 16 knots, cruises at 13-14 knots, with ballast as well cruises at 12.5-13 knots.

Fuel consumption at cruising throttle (4,500) is about 1.4 litres per nautical mile. At 7 knots, about 3000 rpm, this drops to about 0.8 litres per nautical mile.

Noise is a personal issue- I find all motors noisy- but I think the ETEC is a little noisier than a 4 stroke. One has to speak loudly but not scream to be heard in the cockpit at 4,500 rpm. At 3000 rpm conversation is easy.

I imported an '06M to PNG. Freight US$7K, plus GST @ 10%, 50hp Yamaha 4 stroke plus Fish finder and GPS and all the other necessary accesories came to about A$70.
You cannot import a new one into Australia as Synergy have the exclusive agency and I was unable to find anyone who would pack and ship a second hand one - which was my preference.
