Well I took my BF50 to the service shop today - unfortunately they won't be able to work on it for a few days....
But talking to the mgr. about rabbit ears - he said that they are a real source of "problems". For instance, if your garden hose does not have enough pressure the cooling system won't work properly !!
What he uses and strongly recommends is a large garbage pail or other container with enough clean water to do the job!
I will keep you posted as to what they find as to the cause of my overheating....

Sorry Frank, Im sympathetic to your plight.
Murphys law seems to take effect at the worst time.
Im usually trying to get too much done before an outing and if anything goes wrong, we leave late. Its happened 2 times this year.

Yeah, Greg - that "grumpy" was pointed toward Murphy. In fact, the machinist who drilled and sleeved my gearcase used exactly the "murphy phrase" when telling me it would only be $40 per hole and a couple of days! It's really hard to be assured of a clean-break onto an outing. I started preparing 3 weeks prior for the Ch.Islands Cruise, and still missed it! :x But that's because I'd procrastinated needed improvements & maintenance for the previous two years.

Maybe it's Murphy who's whispering in my ear, "I warned ya!" :D

Talking to the mechanic that I hopefully will be using for my repair work - there's a 2 - 3 week backlog around here!! - he told me another No-No about using "earmuffs" for flushing - DON'T rev up the engine!! That (also?) will burn up impellers... just leave at idle and hope the water pressure is high enough?!! etc...
