IT’S A BLUE HULL!

I decide to be polite and not mention it. It was obvious.

Same boat, same lake, posted two weeks ago.

20 gallons of gasoline (120 lbs) in jerry cans evenly distributed on the cabin top of a sailboat is not going to make it roll. If so, no one, not even a child, should ever step on the boat without the water ballast being in.

It is absolutely fascinating to me how resistant Macgregor owners are to the idea that it would be prudent to install a bilge pump or two on their sailboat.

Here are some photos for motivation.

Looks like a great destination for sailing...assume the season is short. Poor guy looks like he enjoyed the boat too. I doubt it was deck weight that flipped it.

Lots of heel for what appears to be light wind conditions. Maybe you lake sailors can weigh in. If I had water like that, there wouldn’t be much wind at all.

Are the photos all from that lake?

I think only one of the other photos is from Great Slave Lake. Another is from further south in Canada, the other two are from USA areas.

What was the heel in that video? The camera angles can make the heel seem extreme.

Yeah, but during that season you get 20 hours of daylight, sooo...

That inclinometer showed 35 degree heel. There were almost no waves on the water, but the main did look to be under some pressure. I'm a lake sailor and would expect more waves in that strong of a wind, but his lake is much much bigger than mine

It's easy, put one on the through hull. The best, you install a Trudesign, so you can use it also in winter/freezing without problems.
BUT: how you deal with the water from the motor well?

How did you find that video? Do you know more about how this boat ended up this way?

I don't have a bilge pump. Roger didn't put one in and I've never found water in my boat to need one. I'll probably install one, but that means drilling holes. Photos are good motivation.

My issue is with owners who think the floatation will protect them. With all the junk on my boat, I'm not depending on the floatation. If the boat reaches that point, it will likely be a floating log that I'm clinging to. Still better than a boat totally sunk.

All the company ever demonstrated was that the boat will not sink to the bottom. In the photo the company used, shows crew standing on the deck, close to centerline. If one took notice, they all were centrally by located so the boat would remain stable. No guaranties.

I took two screen shots from the video. The camera angle is not perpendicular to the gauge, so heel is a tad more than the pic shows.

Why I brought it up was, a big body of water should show some chop at a wind speed that would lay the boat over to almost 40 deg (LordElsinore seems to concur). All of this makes me wonder about how full his ballast tank is.

I did not think as technical as you.

I saw the plants sticking out of the water, and read that the boat was about 15 feet from shore. I don’t believe the ballast was full at all. But again, angels on the head of a pin.

One of my numerous character flaws….
