Re: How to Safely Beach the Boat?

Is my first post here but I wanted to reply before I did my introduction. My girlfriend and I beached our boat and while I did have the tide tables and basic knowledge about tieds themselves I had no idea how drastic the Washington tieds were.

Basically after getting kicked off of a mooring buoy that the state owns right at dark, and being I've never set anchor before decided to motor over to the next land mass. Some areas are rocky and some are sandy when beaching. This was Rocky and I did not have the luxury of searching for a sandy area. I ran about 40 ft of line and tied off to a tree that overhung and low tide didn't start until the morning. We went to bed.

I woke up in the morning and It was still Twilight hearing a gurgling harbor seal beside my boat woke me up. I check where we were and we were on squawks and Island which is not a place you're supposed to be without proper authorization. I got a little paranoid and when I saw what looked like another fish/game boat motoring towards us, I decided to get the heck out of there ASAP. I did pee so bad and I motor back to the small island (hope Island) that we had more at and properly and saw a nice sandy area and beached the boat while my girlfriend was still asleep in the cabin.

I didn't even consider the tides at that moment I had to pee and take a crap so bad. I went around the corner and dug a hole and did my business probably took 10 or 15 minutes.

When I walk back out my boat was completely beached with the water only coming up to Midway. Freaking out I tried to push it and had I had another adult I might have been able to but the swing heel was digging in the sand. I said well I guess we're not going anywhere for a while.

We were there all day until the evening time The boat did want to flop both sides. I did use a couple logs to brace it.

The tide came back in as fast as it had left. Next time we went out I was very conscientious about the tide times and went ahead and waist deep dropped my anchor weight out about 20 ft from shore because I had PTSD of being beached against my will. Thankfully we had all the food and accoutrements but unfortunately didn't pack enough adult beverages for a full day on the beach.

Hope this helps?
