Where is ;Madd Mike’ and Zeno’s Arrow

I was always very intrigued by the keel on Zeno's Arrow.

I designed, built and put in the 7’10 swing keel on St. Thomas after hitting something ‘big’ that was swimming off Saba Island one night which took out the stock keel, thus resulting in a downwind limping return to the U.S.V.I’s. Art work and paint was completed on Bonaire while waiting for Venezuela and Brazil visas. A lot of these other old pictures were taken behind the North Sails 3DL facility in Minden Nevada after my return. FYI, I arrived back in Florida on July 4th, 2004. The last shot was on a Proa we bought in Sri Lanka for a run over to the Maldives. I still have and nuse the microwave in the one shot in our Jeep Wrangler JKU pop top overland camper rig which we’ve now run on the TAT (Trans-America Trail-5550 ‘dirt’ miles from the Oregon Coast to North Carolina Atlantic Ocean), GWT (Great Western Trail) from Canada to Mexico), Trans Labrador Highway (winter run), Oregon, Mojave and Pony Express Trails, etc); pix attached. The ‘Waterways of the Americas’ expedition was documented on my website ‘Planetwave.Com’ which was hosted by powernet (?) out of Reno; since folded. Most of my photos from the trip are on slides and stacked in with about 30k other slides from every country in the world (except N. Korea). The 7 Summits Expeditions, North and South Pole Trips, - you get the picture. We keep saying we’re going to sort them, mostly so we can donate all the unpublished stuff from the Sir Edmund Hillary-Neil Armstrong 1985 North Pole Expedition to the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge (where I did my grad studies). Nice to see some of this old stuff, brings back memories.

Just wanted you to know my kids are gaining an appreciation of how much one can do with “a little boat” with style!

Both of them appreciate what you accomplished with your Mac26 and the challenges you worked through. They also appreciate that you also did it in style and thoughtfulness. Planning your work and working your plan all the while on the adventures of a lifetime.

Even a simple travelogue book of what you have done, been, accomplished would be greatly welcomed as it would be the real life of a person accomplishing an adventurous life. Not a glitzy stilted appearance of one but one of a person and the path taken along the way. There is more interest in a real life than in a contrived one. It is through the experiences conveyed that others find inspiration and the courage, at whatever age, to discover their own.

No pressure, just hoping you might find it a challenge of discovery to share your exploits. Possibly inspiring others, or even just one, to take the first steps of a lifetime’s journey of their own…..

Thank you for the suggestion on writing something up. I do on occasion get the same sort of requests concerning the initial 7 summits climbs, North/South Pole Expeditions (especially about leading the the Sir Edmund Hillary-Neil Armstrong North Pole Expedition) and other adventures/expeditions etc, but really haven’t had much opportunity to do so as yet- maybe someday. We just finished bringing our current boat up from the Florida Keys.Fort Lauderdale area through the ICW and into Erie Canal (now in Bremerton, NY) over the last couple of months- fun trip.

Based upon basic water cycle of evaporation, dispersion, distribution, condensation, accumulation, gravitational flow and convective oceanic current flows you have not only probably sailed in the waters of Zeno’s Arrow but also in the waters of Nelson, Kolchak, Cook, Magellan, Ericsson, Gaius Duilius, Themistocles, Tamos, Zheng He, Gilgamesh and a few other famous sailors whose name evade me at the moment.

We’re planning on cruising around the Florida keys for a few months this winter. Any tips on which side is best, Atlantic or Gulf? We have a 26M with a 25hp Mercury.

One of the ways to get a book started nowadays is to use thetas-to-text feature on most phones and iPads and computers.
Sit with a person and just tell them your stories one at a time as a conversational form.
Telling the story(s) to a person rather than by yourself is a great technique to get them down into words.
It is also the way people like to read about them!

Several people have also done incremental text and audio podcast releases to get their story(s) out and appreciated.
Yours is a unique life that many will appreciate and be inspired by …

Regarding which side of the Keys is best, it all depends. Wind strength and direction, targeted anchorages/marinas, activities of interest. Snorkeling and deeper water fishing favor the south side of the Keys. Some types of fishing are better on the shallow north side. The Mac is a good boat for negotiating the shallows of the north side. When northers are bearing down, the south side offers shelter. It pays to know where the few high bridges are, where you can cross from one side to the other. It's also handy to have your mast raising gear on board so that, in a pinch, you can lower your mast while out on the water and limbo under one of the lower bridges.
