I am looking for the black phillips oval head SS machine screws used on the windows.

You're going to have a hard time finding black SS screws unless you can get the Mac factory or perhaps a dealer to send you some. They're a specialty item, probably custom made for Mac.

I lost a couple and broke a couple more replacing the head window after my infamous anchor dragging incident last year. I ended up using the regular shiny screws. They are definitley noticeable, but you don't really notice them unless you're looking for them. I was thinking a drop of black paint on each, though I'm sure it will chip off.

it won't take as well as on regular carbon steel, but the gun blue paste sold in gun shops, sporting shops, can blacken the screw heads, and won't chip off. It will wear off eventually, especially if rubbed, stepped on.

That's what I'd do, ALX357... either that, or I'd sand-blast the heads and then apply a good black enamel... Krylon is very durable and comes in a nice semi-flat black that will look very much like the original color.

("357"... interesting that you shoud remember the gun blueing! :))
