how you fix your anchor while on the bow?

Perhaps its because I'm poor, or cheap, or maybe a bit simple, but,, I just drilled a hole in my anchor and stick an eye bolt through using the existing anchor roller. To start with I was putting the nut on the end but realized (after loosing the nut in the drink) that the pressure holds it just fine so don't bother now (it has the back up of having the chain locked into the cleat anyway). In a blow when the boat is swinging like mad on the hook, I put this eyebolt through these holes in the roller and put a nut on as it stops the stock roller sides from bending apart. This was meant to be a temporany thing until I bought a decent roller, but it has been this way for years





Just my opinion, and based on my experiences, but, the anchor locker on the Mac does not fit an anchor big enough for this boat. I had several instances of dragging with the big sand anchor I had and it was well dug in and on a scope of more than 10 to 1. The last instance was a sandy/muddy bottom - I came up out of the cabin to find us about to be swept onto an oyster lease. Just got the motor going and moved us in time. That was my last straw and when I decided to upgrade anchors.

Have had a 27 pound plough now for years and recently upped to 18 metres of chain, and mostly this has worked fine - although recently the boat still dragged in a blow. I drove down to check on it as it was blowing hard and sure enough it had moved a couple hundred yards and was almost onto another boat. I raced home and got my kayak and got out there quick smart (at midnight this was).

I completely agree, about the anchor locker being too small to store an anchor suitable for these boats. I long ago stopped trying to stow an anchor there. My Rochna, which is primary anchor, stores on the anchor roller, and my Fortress is hung from a bracket on the bow pulpit. Chain and rode for each of these anchors stores in the locker, with a partition down the middle separating the two.

I store my stern anchor in a bit of PVC pipe here



Now that I have put rails between the mast carrier and stern stauntions to work as a bit of a pushpit, I am going to work out a way to carry the stern anchor on that instead...

And you sail an . The anchor locker on the is even smaller. I have a Fortress FX-7, which is the smallest, but it's the largest that fits in the locker. It does seem adequate for most of my needs, though, but then, I'm not anchoring out in rough open water normally.

I store two more below, one Danforth knock-off that's much larger, and a small Bruce knock-off, both equipped with chain and three-strand and ready to go. But a way to store a Rocna of adequate size on the bow would be really nice. It's just something I haven't gotten around to yet. So, absent any way to secure a hook on the bow, the anchor locker is all I've got.

I do as Chinook stated above. A simple line, one end tied to the pulpit, goes through the chain near the end of anchor and then gets cleated off. No fancy hardware or holes to drill.

Yeah, but that is different - you sail a Venture 25 - that's a REAL sailboat.

If you need your anchor in a hurry, the locker is not the place for it to be.

I've made a prototype tri-blade anchor inspired by the Bullwaga which can be knocked down for stowage but my primary is always ready to go 10 seconds after I get to the bow.

In due time. I might go commercial on this, in which case I have to work out details with Heath on the business end. If you know the Bull, the only hard part is the triangular attach point on the shank which I had to figure out how to make detachable.

Wow! Looks like Navy Stockless meets The Legend of Zelda! And too pretty to bury in an anchor locker - it needs a bow roller to live on.

By the way, I tested this in Westport when I tried to motor out of the harbor with my fuel line disconnected. You get exactly two channel markers off the ramp before ypur engine quits in the ebb tide.
