Taz - I'm pretty sure the enclosure was made by the previous owner. She had some serious sewing skills. They didn't spare any expense on this enclosure. The blue material is waterproof and thick, the windows are a clear plastic. A little dirty, but I think it will clean up nicely. Dave (81venture) has a friend who could probably duplicate this one if I gave her mine as a template. Maybe over winter we can get you two hooked up. I'll talk to Dave next time I'm at his place. He'll probably chime in once he sees this post.

Russ - So I think I have a plan for the rigging... Right now my lake mast is super easy to raise. I can get the mast up in under 5 minutes by myself. Of course, it's sloop rigged and is probably a slap in the face to Roger, but for an inexperience sailer like me, I think this is a good starting point. I'm planning on running this rig for the season (might add a furler this season if Dave hooks me up with one of the ones he got off the "beater boat"). We have the original mast and sails, so once I get a feel for things with the lake setup, the goal is to switch it to the cutter rig. For right now though, I want to be able to get out on the water and get out there quickly. Dave, me, and another guy raised the mast on his Mac 26 the other day. It took us probably 15 minutes, lots of tangles, sweat, cursing, almost fell off the boat, but finally got it up. Dave told me he was going to take my lake rig setup and throw it on his 26 if I end up going with the cutter rig haha. I'm hoping that by the time it starts getting cold, I'll be really comfortable sailing the lake rig and sailing in general. Over the winter I want to rig the cutter mast and figure out a way to easily raise and lower the larger mast. So far the best I've discovered is a 20 minute video on YouTube of a guy raising the mast by himself. Looked pretty simple, but I'm sure it would take some practice.

Arg,

Jason

RussMT wrote:BTW, I think that Venture 23 was the coolest looking boat Roger ever made. Such a classic boat. The actual wood trim on the boat and wood combing. Love that boat.

But lose the lake mast and sail it properly. Dave needs to learn the glory of sailing a proper rig.
That is a classy boat. Roger probably figured out he was losing his shirt making them though.

I don't know why you keep saying this? I understand the first "Lake Rig" was an 18 ft hobie mast and sail for sh~t and giggles....however the "lake mast" on it now is only 4 ft shorter than OEM....other than not having the cutter look she sails as good as any other boat her size that is sloop rigged. We sailed side by side a cat 22 and quickly passed her.

Yes you missed a great party at the Marina...we got the 69 Starcraft Holiday finished up and took her out Saturday

This New Vn23 is Capt Judy's old Vn23....I bought it from Dan who is also a member of this forum.

Yes, My friend Cat could make new enclosures using this one as a pattern np

Today I am doing more wiring in the 26X

Dave

This weekend was PRODUCTIVE. I pumped at least 50 gallons of water out of the old V23, stripped all the parts that I want to add to my boat, and gave her a good cleaning. I'm taking her over to Dave's tomorrow morning. Once we get her rigged, it'll be time to start focusing on my boat again. Here's a before and after of the "beater."

BEFORE:

AFTER:

My finds today:
- Shorepower breaker box and SS plug-in for the cockpit (donating this to Dave)
- 2 Electrical panels with switches for cabin, running, and anchor lights
- Galley, SS sink and faucet. Not sure if I'll put this in my boat yet.
- Battery case
- 3 brass wall sconces
- Pulpit and bowspirit :D
- Scraps of teak
- A blue bumper

Who's laughing....I'm sitting on the laptop looking at them both right now....I really miss that O'day mast

And nothing would ruffle feathers here more than to put a shorter mast on the :macx:

Russ and Catigale will simply lose it LOL

Alright guys, so it's been a while. The last couple months I've been super busy at work, and super broke at home. BUT, I managed to take a couple days off this week to work on the old Pirate ship at the landlocked Rolesville Marina. Today Dave and I managed to do away with the lake mast and put up the original Venture mast. The cutter is back. Dave thought she looked great, but I think he was a little heart broken to see the infamous lake mast leave his old ship.

Hopefully I"ll be able to swap out the bow spirit tomorrow and work on some of the rigging. I'm also working on building the same type of mast raising system that Dave has on his 26 using a gin pole and winch. Also need to figure out how to build a taller crutch. Lots of work left to do.
