First thing for us after buying our new X in 2002 was adding a tandem axle, since we intended to go on extended road trips with the boat in tow. Close on the heels of that was adding the full cockpit surround.

for about $1100 bucks

:
1. Big Lewmar Claw Anchor, Chain and a bowroller to go with.......(Planned on sleeping on the anchor, but had never used an anchor!?
2. Asymmetrical Spinnaker and all associated lines and hardware for the install.....(Becasue I love sailing and have always wanted to try this sail!)
3. Led Bulbs for the interior lights......(BEST MOD! never have run down the battery since.)

Well I've never tried sleeping on our anchor, we usually keep it in the anchor locker with the rode.

It is the new fluffy pillow anchor. When dry you can sleep on it. When wet, it sinks and holds the boat while also being coral friendly.

Dang, maybe that is why I didn't sleep.....so much to learn.

I sleep between anchors; two under the vee-berth, and one above in the locker. Nice and snug. There's nothing like two or even three anchors to make you feel snug and secure.
One of several big reasons I downsized to this boat was so that I could
stop laying out so much money, both for upgrades, and for continuing maintenance and storage and dockage and so on. It's become almost a sport (but short of being a religion) as to how much I could improve it with as little out of pocket money as possible.

Do you really want to know? Towing it home I pulled into a Gas (petrol) station in the dark that was really tight and broke the aluminum post & roller guide on the port side?
I was not impressed with my trailering skills nor with the cheapness of the guides. Anyway I had 4 SS guides made that I still have on my trailer.

I looked for a modded

: Galvanized tandem axle trailer. water sys. etc. Ended up redoing most mods. Added:
A GPS Chartplotter. A proper tow vehicle. A new motor. A Bimini. A generator & then... The MODS
Half the fun of this boat is buying & making stuff for it. Enjoy the process. Pace Yourself

Flush toilet so I could travel with the admiral and family. About $1 Boatbuck
We often go on two or three night trips with 6 on board and would never have even considered attempting even a single overnight with the porta-potty that came with the boat. We grew up in a city and are used to someone else killing our food and processing our sewage.

First thing I did was storage. There were no places to keep clothing, silverware, oddball stuff, or just about anything.
I made
A modular unit that fits opposite the daggerboard trunk and has a shelf on top for books and DVDs
And clothing bins below that. It also provides a place to hold onto while getting to and from the front berth.
A small shelf that sits on the galley counter.
A bin that sits on the table
Some overhead cubbies.
All of these are made with the same painted plywood and teak fronts so there is a look of continuity. They are held in place with the bare minimum of fastenings into the boat itself.
The next mod was an anchor windlass

Main Sail Slugs - it's the only way to raise the main out in the open ocean in the winter time when the wind is strong and the swells are big. If I sailed lakes, bays, and waterways I would not have ever purchased sail slugs so they are definitely NOT for everyone.

Like some others, I bought everything I thought I might need with the boat, that way I could spend time working on and making things that I couldn't buy, such as making bushings and seals for the steering mechanism. Um... Except for the barrier coat and anti-foul coatings. I bought the materials and paint and did that myself, I wanted to get those things done before it hit the water for the first time.

Bought it last summer, spent nothing on it so far. This spring I will be adding a compost toilet, replacing the interior cushions, and replacing the counter and table with bamboo plywood counter top.
And possibly buying a new dual-axle aluminum trailer, if I can find one in Canada now that the dollar is worth 80 cents

The first year I bought my

, I made a screen for the companionway and a screen for the hatch, LED cabin lights, and overhauled simple water system to something a little more elaborate.
