Flash the firmware with latest. Make sure it's configured correctly. Mine got set for wrong quad blade configuration.
LOL string. I did that at first. Now I have a GSM GPS tracker on the bird.

P. S.
I thought about the kite thing too. How does that work? Anyone using it?
It's gotta be cheaper & le$$ involved than the phantom route...

Yes use a picavet just Google it plenty of KAP sites describe how to make it, or you can buy them pre-made.

It's a TK102 from Amazon. I use a GSM card from H2o wireless. $10 for 3 months of service. Call it and it hangs up and texts you coords and google map.
The weight is the problem. With gimbal, gopro, tracker, it's gets heavy.
Also, learn to master the HL Home Lock and CL Course Lock switches. I lost sight of the phantom and was probably steering It further away. HL and pull the stick back and she comes right back home. Sweet.
Get a headlight. Best way to see what way it's pointing, especially when far away.
Check your NAZA firmware. Earlier versions had fly away issues. Not so much now. Mine was set to wrong Quad configuration and it flew like a deranged dragonfly. Easy to fix. Make sure failsafe is enabled in software and set limits (1000 feet) and it comes home.
This video shows the difference with and without gimbal.
Over the marina, it was windy and no gimbal. Very shaky video.

Check out
http://www.alarmsim.com/ . Designed for home alarm systems and minutes do not expire, as long as you send at least one text every 6 months and $0.30/month to rent your phone line. I use it for my GSM switch to turn on the preheat for my airplane. Same deal; I call from an authorized number that I specify and it rejects the call without using any time and executes a pre programmed action.

Thanks for the tip Rich.
I may also use this for my house alarm system.
Too bad their coverage doesn't reach the lake where our boat is slipped. Would love to do that GSM relay to turn the fridge on.

You can choose either T-Mobile, or AT&T. Did you check both? I am using T-Mobile for my switch, even though I am an AT&T customer. Reason is because T-Mobil is a bit cheaper for this particular SIM and works at my hanger location. AT&T has better general coverage in my area, though.

Yes, I saw that. Here in the valley, both have coverage. However, up at the lake I checked their coverage map and neither have coverage there. Doesn't surprise me because only Verizon has towers up there. Others at the marina get zero bars if they are not on Verizon.
I was hoping one of those cool GSM switch devices would allow me to control my fridge and turn it on and be cold when I got there. Instead, I installed a 12v timer and run it every morning so if I get there it's somewhat cold.
My home alarm will work well with this GSM chip though. Thanks.
