Put Snap-on white pleather covers over the exposed lazarrette sides to protect your tanks from sun. Also put one on the front of your helm seat to keep exhaust fumes out of the cockpit and small objects in. 3M now makes VXB tape snap bases that stick onto gelcoat really well and require no drilling. Since those came out, I've been preferentially using snaps for everything.

Warning to ETEC owners: Spilling any TCW-3 oil on your fuel tanks will react with sunlight and eat through your tanks in one season. Do not store your engine oil in the lazarettes with the gas tank. I keep my spare quart in the engine well, but that's not great either. Also, I don't know what TCW-3 is made of that makes normal lids impossible to contain it, but I've always got a tiny mess around the lid with that stuff.

I also added a 6 inch deck plate right over the cap to create the extra space. You don’t want to be moving it anyway because it is very heavy, so it is filled from the top only. Due to the tight fit, I always leave the pressure cap open in the summer.
I didn't do the measurements yet but was hoping that low profile tank would fit without fiberglass modification, but it sounds like that is not the case. Also, I was hoping that maybe they could still slide out a bit just for filling (like I do with the 6's) but maybe I was just being overly optimistic :?

If it is only the tank fill cap, can you just install a 4 inch deck plate over the cap?
That way you never have to twist and try to fill the tank, all you do is unscrew deck plate and fill.
Just take off the cap to install and screw it back in thru deck plate.
I have to twist my 6 gal. tanks sideways to fill and is a pain. Think I am going to install twin 9 gal. tanks and put in 4 inch deck plates on my Macx.

The new West Marine 12's don't fit; neither do the 2011 Moeller 12 LPT's I just ordered from iBoat. The fuel caps on either are simply too high to allow the hinged seats to fully lower; it's a closer fit on the Moeller's than the West Marine's. I could take off the caps from the old Tempo tanks and almost use them with the Moeller's - I would have to sand down the vent on top a little bit, and the guards around it. But I'd rather find a new 12 gallon tank that fits properly under the 2005 26M cockpit seats.

Any ideas? thanks

For unknown reasons the cap has three tangs sticking up almost an inch, I think maybe to protect the vent screw, just take a grinder to it and grind down until it fits.
