I have put it on WindSong and all key components including Engine. It is called DynaDot here in Australia. The number is registered with the boats registration. It does not prevent stealing but can be a deterrent and is a good means of identifying your ownership if recovered. However that is a big "if" these days!

Along with all the privacy issues that technology brings, it will also bring some solutions to this.

Ex.
Infared heat trigger, cel connection, linked to three or four cameras. System triggers. Phone rings, displays video feed. Hey punk gtf off my boat. Dude I can see you right here. Yep you just flipped me off. I already have your photo saved. Leave and don't do any damage else I'll send it to the cops. If anything EVER happens to my boat, a copy of this video is going to the local sheriffs.
Or something like that.

Surveillance only goes so far. Great if you can recognize the thief, otherwise, you just have nice video of the theft to watch over and over.

Sure would be easy to rig an alarm with a loud siren. Like those deals on toys in the electronics stores. Break the circuit and loud siren goes off. The sound of a loud siren might deter a thief. If you keep your boat in one of these areas, might be worth rigging one to anchor and other stuff of value theft worthy.

I'm more in favor of the C4 implanted with a dead switch (on a delay of course). Won't get your motor back, but will prevent some other guy's from being stolen.

Some years ago a good friend had his outboard purloined at the local marina. I just happened to be in a boat dealer/marine supply store in Las Vegas and there on a stand was his outboard. I didn't say anything to the proprietor but called my buddy and informed him. He casually walked into the store and informed the owner that the motor in question was his and he could identify it by engraving on the block. The owner told him that he had bought the engine from a lady who needed cash. The owner refused to let him inspect the engine. That is until my friend produced his Las Vegas Police detective badge. That put paid to that. He reclaimed his motor and the store owner was arrested for possession of stolen property. Turns out this guy had been fencing stuff for years but they just couldn't catch him until then. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.

Now stuff "off the back of the truck" is sold on ebay.

I wish that would happen more often, though I doubt many are recovered in the end. But it's nice when it works out that way, and someone gets his (or hers) in the end.

In Texas , We have titles for everything.... Boat , Motor & Trailer....It's a pain as far as paperwork goes, But, has slowed down outboard thefts. Dauntless.
