You don't really tow with full ballast do you? That's not good.

For the first year, I towed my with a Volvo XC70. I initially decided to add the second axle to the trailer to reduce the tongue loading. The car pulled the boat out of the water better than most trucks but was a bit tender above 55 mph on the highway. It had plenty of power but the limiting factor is capacity of the suspension. I then bought the F-150 and have had no issues towing with that beast

I only really mentioned as when I was looking for a mac, I could'nt see anyone without a large truck or 4*4, so its worth highlighting to anyone researching, its perfectly doable. I pulled it out recently on a damp and gravelly ramp. tiny bit of spin but came out fine to my surprise.

We tow ours with a 2004 Toyota Sienna van. It came with 4-wheel disc brakes standard as well as the towing package standard. I added an industrial-size transmission cooler and AirLift rear spring helpers to level out the rig. It tows very nicely. Mileage is around 17 mpg - not fantastic, but adequate. I wish the Sienna came as a diesel with a manual transmission in the US - that would really be perfect.

Nope, tow it with a van. Lots of ballast in the van (behind the steering wheel)

The original trailer without brakes that came With my M-boat, is not road legal in Norway. So I replaced it With similar trailer to the picture shown underneath:



And I pull With a Honda CR-V diesel, that is allowed to pull 2 tons. No problems at all.

I am new to the forum but I am with boating Atlanta, a long-time MacGregor dealer in the Southeast and now a Tattoo dealer. I currently have three Tattoo 26's on order and two of them sold. I have tried to place orders for the 22, but they are not yet in production so they will not accept my order. They plan on showing the 22 at the Annapolis MD boat show. That will more than likely be the first one built.

you mean original trailer that had non working brakes right? . but yep, nice trailer, I ended up adding a second axle to my non mac made trailer for a trip to France.

There should be a gallery here for all the different rigs, and some launch and recover vids, no-one seems have posted anywhere on the net for some reason?

its been 2 years since I sold my 26X.. I may be interested in the tattoo 22.. The mac 19 just seems to small. I checked the tattoo website. minimal information available.
Any idea of price?? Any idea of its trailer requirements.. I assume Macgregor sailboats are finished??

Now that I have officially retired. (62- 90% recovered form my stoke) its time to spend my children`s inheridence..

I think that 22 is gonna be very popular.

It reminds me of the old days when Coastal Recreation in Costa Mesa (near next door to Roger) was building the Balboa 26 - a very fine boat with a good reputation, but then Coastal Rec started building the Aquarius 23 and all sales of the Balboa 26 just about stopped completely when the A23 was offered.

If people can get all the same things in a approx 23 foot boat that they can get in a 25-26 foot boat, and they plan to trailer it, they will take the smaller boat every-time.

If it's got a fairly private head, a galley, an ice chest, decent headroom and a place to sleep, they will buy it. Anyone know who invented the pop top on sailboats?? It was a great idea and I think MacGregors are smart to bring back the pop-top. It eliminates so many of the problems associated with "tall rigs".

I hate those poptops....that was one big reason I bought my M model instead of a used 26 classic.

Different tastes. I actually like the pop top design. Simpy way to get instant headroom in a boat that otherwise wouldn't without costing lots of freeboard.

I sort of agree. Nothing like a nice long LOW and fast racing boat going through the water beating the crap out of you and you can comfort yourself with the knowledge that your boat has headroom and his does not.

I like my M just fine - but if I were in a really fast boat I would go for the pop top. It's a great way to turn a fast boat into a comfortable boat.

I wonder who invented the pop top on sailboats?? Did they come on the Venture first or the Catalina or the Aquarius?? (All boats from the 70's)
