I'd love to see MMOR flags made with the Mac tartan and the year on them.
If you made em, I'd totally buy one every year at the meet!

If you read through the first wiki link I provided (
http://blog.albanach.org/2006/05/macgregor-tartans.html) you'll find it identified as the Rob Roy (MacGregor) tartan. It's actually recognized as perhaps the oldest tartan of the lot. There is some contention however as modified variants have occurred over time, probably due to different tribes within the clan. Sort of like our

ect.
For starters I'm going to suss out availability through some of the local Scottish shops to see what a flag sized bolt would cost. Maybe I could glue a label from Highlanders favourite scotch for each year running...

Further spin on this idea which is resulting from my improbable likelihood of finding an affordable totally correct MacGregor tartan to fly - though I'm still trying, everything seems to be running into the hundred plus buck range and that's a lot of cash for a semi-durable flag.
It turned out we had a cheapo tartan car blanket that looks very MacGregor like and couldn't have cost much more than five bucks when we bought it twenty years ago (I post a pic shortly). At a slight distance it looks great! When I thought about it, it wasn't so much about running the exact MacGregor tartan as a pennant/flag. It seems more that it would be appropriate to fly 'any' tartan, correct - close -your own clan, as a tribute to Roger MacGregor and the last manufacturing year of the boat we have come to love so much! No one else may get it but you might.
Stupid or no?

On the Gypsy , we take our flags very seriously !
On the stern , we Flag Old Glory as this is the place of honor .
We have flag lines on the spreaders port and starboard . Here we fly state flags and our pirate flags .
Joanne found some used signal flags in a shop in Apalachicola . She strung them together and we occasionally fly the string .
Since we are in Florida we have been flying the Florida state flag on port side and the since we are from Alabama , we have been flying our state flag on the starboard . The two flags are almost identical , both white with a red st Andrews cross . Only difference is Florida has their seal in the middle of theirs .
On Memorial Day and the 4th of July we fly the Army Flag , since we had three sons serve in the Army .
In Tarpon Springs we bought our Conch Republic Flag . It hangs , for now , in the cabin . We said we were not going to fly it until we are pulling into Key West . We must earn the right to fly her ,, and we will !!
On the bow we either fly the red Caribbean pirate flag , our rum flag , the Sea Shepherd flag , or the White star lines pennant ( Titanic flag ).
Like I said we take this very seriously !

I like the MacGregor tartan idea personally, although I'm yet to fly any flags. We were just talking today about how we need to get a jackstaff for Old Glory.

Alright fine. You guys win. I bought a passel of flagige on craigslist.
I've foregone the mast step organizer; the anchor roller; those darn turning blocks so I too can fly.
Now I figure I can go another year with a blown main. I've got flags.
The peer pressure around here is excruciating.....

Old Glory, and the Canadian colors off the starboard spreader. The Yanks are invading! Again!
But showing the appropriate respect, of course.
