On a beautiful calm evening after a rare hot summers day, we anchored near shore on a fairly large lake up north, and all was well. There was no bay for miles in either direction. The violent thunderstorm hit about 4am. I let out more scope just before the wind hit, and the ground tackle held, thanks to advice in this forum about ground tackle. Anyways, my son still talks about that 'near death' experience, and that was about ten years ago it happened.
Imagine the sight of a huge dark cloud coming straight at you in the middle of the night, throwing off bolts of lightning here and there, and you know you don't have time to move anywhere safe. You can fool most of the people some of the time, but you can't fool your own children. They read you like a book. But we managed.
It's now just a good story.
