Same here. New bias-ply tires, mounted on galvanized wheels, to replace the 12 year old originals and 9 year old second (added) axle pair. I've kept the newer ones for spares, and will replace them too when funds allow.

It's hard to beat the mounted tire price from etrailer, and free shipping was just the icing. They showed up via UPS in a couple of days, already inflated. Install, adjust pressure, use the trailer. :)

Chris.
That's what I got. 4 premounted from etrailer. Cheap and at my door in a couple of days. Went with bias because the radials were out of stock. Probably better off with these.

Seems like a good deal to me, too. That's the tire brand I bought. Seems to be fine so far.

15 inch 6-lug? On a 26X trailer?

14" wheels on a 'standard' 3500 lb axle. 5 on 4-1/2" pattern. ST205/75D14 bias ply on galvanized wheels, both axles. The original steel :macx: trailer had one axle, which is still there but was moved forward when the PO's added a second 3500 lb axle. The original axle and leaf springs were actually fairly heavy, but the spindles and bearings are light.

You must have an upgraded axle, which is a Really Good Thing in my opinion, as the original was just too light for any :macx: configured to actually be used.

interesting. Ill have to check it out more this weekend. I thought the tires in my link were kinda weak at 2100 working lb. 1750 seems awfully light.

I agree, and I'm glad the PO's added the second axle. They had loaded my boat up (when it was theirs :D ) for cruising, with all sorts of stuff (like a 120V refrigerator) that I promptly ripped out, but I'm sure it was well over the rated 3500 lb gross vehicle weight of the standard trailer, which includes the weight of the trailer itself. I'm sure it still is at least a little over, but I haven't dragged it to a public scale. Probably will on the next road trip, just so I know.

In your case, 4200 lb of tire capacity, plus tongue weight (another 400 lb, more or less) is 4600 lb gross trailer load. That's pretty heavy considering the boat has an empty weight of 2350 lb (plus engine, sails, battery, and on, and on, and on), depending on the trailer's tare weight. My trailer is supposedly 710 lb, but that was with just the original axle. A couple or few hundred more pounds for the extra axle, springs, and wheels.

6 lugs huh? My Mac aluminum trailer has 5 lugs

I looked at them and after shipping the price was exactly the same as these guys.

So I bought 4. They came in a couple of days. Now I have to go bolt all this stuff together.

What lb of torque is the number you use? I always heard 90 but never have seen it in writing.

The trailer manufacturer says 90. I won't even get into the 'dry or oiled' debate... it will suffice to say I do them dry and have never broken a lug or had one come loose.

I have never had a new trailer. Most likely why I have never seen the book... haha

I went with bias ply. The reason, as it was told to me, is that when the tire is hot after towing and dunked in the water the steal and rubber from the tire have an issue. Different expansion rates. This leads to separation of the ply and tire failure. Makes sense to me.

So why wouldn't the steel in the bead of your bias ply tire also fail. This is a totally untrue situation.there is no issue with heat expansion differences between rubber and steel plies or beads.
