As far as tradition goes, do you regard the boat as a masculine thing, or a feminine? We mostly call our boats 'she' in this part of the world (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

I'm not an expert but in Italy it is usually used the feminine for boats .... often a dedication in honor of their women!

But having women on board was considered bad luck, at least to the superstitious sailors from long ago.

That is interesting, in spanish powerboats are femenine (lancha), and sailboats are masculine (velero), but boats in general are maculine (bote). I think the latter is because a boat uses the neutral pronoun which by default is masculine.
