you know I havhad an idea floating in my mind for some time, an dthat was - I wonder if you could build wing seats along the whole side, kinda like they use onteh hobie cat 18 and 21, ... there would have to be a clever way to ensure you could still get on and off with ease - but I think a smart guy could figure out how to use this as a step or something, to make it easier to get on and off.
anyway, just wanted to toss the idea out there.

Jeff, I have stern rails on my M. Love them... You need to come over and take a detailed look at them when you are ready to develop your own.

Well over 250 lbs. I weigh 260 and my seats don't flex or bend at all, even with me jumping on them. I'd say they'd handle 500 lbs. no problem. I get no flexing or movement at all--they're like part of the hull.

COol thanks for the reply. Is there a manufacturer label on there anywhere? I might email the company that makes them for an official response. I'm glad to hear that they seem just fine

Billy (XX) has a design he has threatend to build for a
long time. I was planning on helping him with his build this Fall. He wants to call them "Hot Wings" but my son called them "Billy Benches" which keeps his name branding scheme like the "Billy Box" AC unit

Thanks, Vic! My seat/bench design actually hinges on the base of the cockpit side rails. When up, they fasten to the top of the rail via the existing lifeline eye and resemble a spray skirt. To use as a seat, one disconnects each end from the rail lifeline eyes, pulls out the solid rods to the hinge and then connects the ends to eyes (to be installed) at the hull seam bolts. The seat is then level with and outside the coaming. Takes less than 30 seconds to deploy. Folds up when time to dock.
I'll get around to it one of these days (along with all the other designs on the back burners).
Yes, there is a PVC mockup (not stainless) and it works.

I have a 2000 26X and would really like aft rail seats. I'm an engineer and do regular 3D CAD drawings - setting up a jig doesn't sound too bad.

What it you were to make a seat that went on the geny tracks and had a couple rubber stoppers that rested on the upper ledge of the rubrail…kinda like the cockpit ladder. You wouldn't want to leave them there with no one in it, but one weight was applied it shouldn't go anywhere. Or make an entire bench seat and have it clip into the lifelines to keep it from sliding out the back…no holes to drill ect. Maybe thats what you've already got going though Billy?

We need Mastreb to do some most-excellent calculations showing the increased righting moment gained by moving some of our excess mass (sorry!) outboard of the stock cockpit location. I don't think the X or M stern seats will contribute much, if anything, but some kind of harnessing and hanging five, off the combing, might give an increased righting moment that would be unbeatable in a MacGregor!
