Just one company. Roger Macgregor started Macgregor Yachts back in the mid sixties, starting with the Venture 21. All of the boats he made were called Ventures until about 1977 when he started calling them by the Macgregor name. So a V21 is essentially the same boat as an M21, a V23 Venture of Newport is the same basic boat as an M23. I don't know why he added the "of Newport" moniker. V23, M23, Venture of Newport are the same boat. But the V24 in the Craigslist ad is a standard sloop, a precursor to the V25/M25. The V23 is a cutter with a bowsprit and wood taffrails. She is a "character boat" in that she was built to look like an 1890's pilot cutter. Don't let the "old fashioned" rig fool you, though. She is wickedly fast on any point of sail other than dead downwind; arguably faster than any other boat her size and vintage. 8)
