Hi Dive,
Re: The cross-members - I needed something to keep the upper and lower pieces solidly in place when the ladder is opened. I had envisioned stainless tubing, but when I took the design to the metal shop, they said angle-iron would be a lot easier for them. I didn't argue. It works great and I think it looks fine.

Hi Currie.. I think what you did looks and works GREAT.. I only offered an alternative ( and inferior at that ) for those without the skill or the cash for your mod..

Oh I hear ya! - and your alternative sounds great to me as well. I was just pointing out I gave in to the guy that had to do the work. It wasn't a master plan. Point being I think a number of things would work well.

I see no Xer's have made a comment on this. Maybe you have been looking at pre 99 X's. All 99 and newer X's have a ladder. The ladder provides some (as much as a M) support to the cockpit thru it's contact with the floor. The ladder is so convenent as opposed to the open step of older boats. As far as support I'm not sure that the X needs any.

I noticed it in a mod somewhere. Yes, I think it was '95.
I found a few other interesting ladder mods for the M.

All the mods are good.

So Far , all I have done is replace the factory steps ( cedar ? ) with Wider Deeper .. IMHO just all around better Oak ...Steps..
Rob: I don't think that "lift" ladder would be appropriate for a M... You Need.. The Cockpit support!
