FYI, I've found WD40, or even motor oil is good for removing adhesive residue. Remember to alcohol or acetone clean afterwards.

Really appreciate the support. Had a good day. The admiral suggested some "goo" type remover, which we found at Home Depot (actual name is "Goof Off"). It took the glue residue right off. Already to do the WD-40 thing, but admiral's suggestion won the day. Found Mercury engine spray paint at West Marine. Got the first coat on. Will try to get three good coats on and then wait the recommended time before I try the decals. I have a call in to the manufacture of the paint to see how long that should be.

I have completed my task of repainting the cowling and applying new "stickers". The first surprise I encountered when I got down to putting on the new "decals" was finding out that they were, indeed, stickers and not three layer decals. Despite that, the use of slightly soapy water permitted relatively easy application. I was initially a little disappointed in the size of the "50" and lack of a "Mercury" sticker for the aft part of the cowling, so I used the smallish "50" and "Bigfoot" sticker there. later, as I was throwing out the wrapper, I found the larger "50" and the Mercury stickers on a separate small sheet at the bottom. Hence, they are on the forward end! The second surprise was that the replacement stickers did not match the shapes of the old decals at all. they are nice so I used them, but, obviously, checking the product you order carefully is in order. Below are "before" and "after" pictures. Thanks to everyone that helped. Time to get back out on the water.

I want to install solar panels and most installers do not suggest any exacting brand. Do you have knowledge with any particular brand that has worked for you or someone you know?

Joan , there are numerous threads on Solar panels and they do POP up , else where on the board.. Your best bet is to do a search for Solar panels .. Lots to read about what works and doesn't work and the cost and how they have been mounted.. Some have very limited outputs , just to maintain the batteries on a mooring others have run their boats with Fridge and even A/C units for a few days living on the hook..
