20 knots is too much for the genny, correct

A jib woud be much nicer, or even a storm jib...

Either way you would want a reef in the main too.

You had your M 50-60 degrees with reefed sails and full ballast ? That had to be scary. I've seen some pretty high winds in my X but never seen that with reefed sails and ballast. You would have had real trouble if you went over under those conditions.
