I recently fitted an 8mm wide LED strip to our ShippeShape roof tent, there are 300 LED's for a 5 metre roll, very impressive result, we are going to fit some inside "Imagine" our Macgregor 26X as well, I'll keep you up to date with the results.

Paul,
We bought 2 of these in the cool white. They are the best we found for low current draw & brightness. 6 amps for 5mtrs. Can cut them up into 1m lengths and solder wires then switch - fuse & anderson plug. We velcro'd them onto cabin ceiling. Very f-ing bright

compared to the diode leds.
Here is a warm white of same....

Very interesting thanks Dave. I take it you didnt use the whole 10 mtrs in the Mac (some in the Tin tent maybe?)
Where did you mount them in the Mac? - I'm just wondering how you got wires to them if you put them along the deckhead. Got any piccies?

Berber Boy wrote:Some of the LED replacement bulbs I got from ledcentral were reasonably warm. But I have installed complete 26 LED lights with RED and white switching. They are plenty to read by and you could warm them up with a soft amber gelatin filter cutout to size.
They really decrease your battery draw though.

Dave, in your searching did you find a model number for equivalent globes to the stock mac globes? I have not taken my lights apart yet but they seem to be not the typical globe. Almost halogen in type? The links in this thread to the eBay store no longer link to the globes you mention.
Edit. G4 is the type. Nope. T10 or W16W - see later post
Jim.

G4 is not the correct type for the cabin lights in my 2011 hull.
The correct type is T10 or W16W as follows
Having bought the G4 however I can say they will fit. You need a small strip of something that will not melt and bend the G4 legs over the strip to imitate the T10 above and then push the LED globe with the "hacked" connector into the mount. If the strip the legs are bent over is correct size, the globe will stay put.
