There isn't sweat problem with Sunbrella, only a cost problem. The stuff is expensive, but worth it.

Vinyl does not breath, so you end up sitting in puddles of sweat. Sunbrella breaths, so you stay comfortable all of the time. The black does not get hot. It gets mildly warm, but not anywhere near hot. Water beads up and rolls off. We have never washed them. There is no need. The fabric was designed for use on outdoor furniture that is exposed to the elements. There have been times where we have left the cushions in the cockpit for several days. They wear incredibly well.

The upholsterer I used is a boater. I originally wanted to use closed cell foam, but he talked me out of it. He explained that closed cell would not be as comfortable as open cell, and that the Sunbrella water protection is good enough to not worry about the porous open cell foam getting wet. He was correct. The open cell foam is comfortable. I don't remember if I had the box seat cushions made 2 or 3 inches thick. The back cushions are knife edge, and not thick at all.

if you're planning staying aboard over winter, I'd really recomend a propex hot air system... they're brilliant. Dries the boat out nicely too as an added bonus..

Outer bilges Mmmm I think so, check under cabin table seats, gally seats, fore bunk and aft bunk, basicly anywhere I find a cover to lift, is there anymore I should know about.
Looked at the propex heater, no fumes I understand, was concerned it wouldn't throw out much heat but sound like it might be the right answer for us !

The outers can be checked under the galley + chill box or the aft berth first two covers. Bit harder if the boat is moving around. Should be obvious really.. I can get a couple of inches after some heavy rainy days. Then the cushions just suck in the damp, holding that cold clammy unwelcoming feel.
My propex is an old 1600w model. I spent a fair while chatting to propex tech guys too. Very helpful! My friend with the 40' Elan was so jealous he's fitting one this winter! It'll get the cabin up to 20deg when it's -4 outside. I used it alot when building the galley last winter.

Never been out on the water up that way, though there was a rally there last May. Apparently it was freezing!

I spoke with the fellows at Softopper.

They will have new 26X Interior Cushion Covers ready to ship in about 2 weeks and the 26X Cockpit covers will follow about 3 weeks after that.

The colour will be extremely close to the colour in the 26M....but a heavier material.

Interior covers will sell for $599 and include all the ones in the main cabin and the V-berth. 9 covers in all. They will not include the large rear berth under the cockpit.

The Cockpit covers will be $399 and include all 6 covers. Both sides with backrests and captains seat with backrest.

Shipping will be about $20.
