Make sure that you check your fuses with a multimeter as they can look good to the eye but in fact are blown

I checked my Merc manual last night and in deed the safety lanyard switch is not a series loop, but grounds some signal from the main loom .
This means the check should be to ground both switch terminals to bypass it (checks both the switch and the ground connection)

Could the system relay "degrade" causing an intermittant problem, or would it be a total failure situation?
Is there any work-around to the relay when failure occurs? (short of replacement....as a get you home solution?)
