LOL skideep thats why I said allegedly but in truth I haven't tried it as the biggesty problem we have when travelling is trying to get the fridge to freeze what we have without worrying about more and when at home prefer to sit and watch the river more than catch freshwater fish.
But may try it one day :)

Wuddyamean?
When I'm dockside at night, I use a strobelight & mirrored ball to attract all sorts of lovely things! :D

That must mean that you can't use a underwater light on a wand to catch prawns while out doing hydrotherapy in the shallows at night with a net in the other hand!

I'll stay in Oz thanks.

COLREGS say you have to display the required lights for whatever activity you are doing, and nothing else, so probably all these decorations violate that statute, even at anchor. FWIW

Lighting below the boats waterline is used for Scuba divers, snorkelers, etc. I believe the regulations you're referring to pertain to running and anchoring lights above the waterline.

Good point Frank. I have no idea how underwater lights fit into COLREGS.
IIRC, the active verb is to 'display' so someone has to interpret if an underwater light is 'displayed' or not....

whatever...

Section (b) seems most applicable

Application

(a)Rules in this part shall be complied with in all weathers.

(b) The Rules concerning lights shall be complied with from sunset to sunrise, and during such times no other lights shall be exhibited, except such lights which cannot be mistaken for the lights specified in these Rules or do not impair their visibility or distinctive character, or interfere with the keeping of a proper look-out.

(c) The lights prescribed by these rules shall, if carried, also be exhibited from sunrise to sunset in restricted visibility and may be exhibited in all other circumstances when it is deemed necessary.

(d) The Rules concerning shapes shall be complied with by day.

(e) The lights and shapes specified in these Rules shall comply with the provisions of Annex I to these Regulations.

Yes, Catigale, section (b) pretty well sums it up. The underwater lights will not interfere with or be mistaken for other navigational lights due to the fact that they're submerged below the waterline, so in essence there's basically no problem having them installed on anyone's boat.

Why do Oz crabs go backwards? I could undersand it if they went left, instead of right, but backwards? :D

Run the boat backwards to surprise the crabs, don't want to spook them with the boat.
