No, should I? How about the weight of the snow and ice?

I hope you have your axel jacked up on a stock Mac.Trailer. You must have at least a ton or more extra weight with all that snow and Ice.

Look at my above picture of my last Post, you can see the stearn sitting on the bankment and bow at lower end. You can see under the hull for 6 ft. and full ballest.
The hull can easy take this, the ballest tank acts as reinforced stringers makeing the hull very rigid, also has very large stringers to support the Ballest structure.

I smell the 'ballast doesnt weigh anything under the waterline' argument heating up....Warning Warning...

Weigh anything? Whats that suppose to mean? A sling fore and aft to lift your boat for haul outs with full water ballest is same thing as fore and aft hull weight on a drop sand bar.

I wonder: Which weighs more, 1400 lbs of water, or 1400 lbs of lead?

The lead of course because it has more volume per degree of weight.

I'm too dense to get these concepts. I'll think about it Mass. If we all work on it together it would be en masse. Next stop Massey Paliseau!!

Obviously you are making allusion to the Subquadratic computation of vector generating polynomials and improvement of the block Wiedemann algorithm

1400lbs of water, 1400lbs of lead ... which one would hurt more if you dropped both of them on your foot?

Wow. remind me never to mention the ballast weight again!

Anyway, thinking out loud here. The issues of opening the ballast after you dry out are:
1. The weight of the boat resting on the somewhat delicate hull is reduced. This may or may not be important but I can see situations where there just happens to be a sharp rock, lump of metal, etc under the boat that could damage the hull. Losing the ballast could reduce this risk.
2. If you are on mud, then the less weight the better so that you would sink less reducing the potential risk of the CB clogging up.
3. With no ballast, the boat will float off sooner when it's time to go.
4. The ballast gate should be shut after emptying so that stuff doesn't go in there.

Overall, I would think it would be a good idea to empty the ballast.

Just keep pounding, Steph. :D

Old joke, Gary. There have been some interesting discussions on this subject; more like a food fight.
