Besides, it's hard to see in the dark narrow spaces with the goggles on and that silly leather helmet is not much protection. :D Or, do you wear it to keep your ears from flapping? :? :D

This picture is ours in travel mode the jib has a UV protection at the edge, we sometimes take the mainsail and or boom off to restrict wind drag on long trips but note carrying the mainsail like this is only possible (safely) if you raise the attachment points or at least have a raised point to rest the mast on when dropping it.

I am guessing you are referring to the straps I used to hold the after end down to the trailer. I thought the goal posts came from the factory...but I guess the original owner installed them.

That was a 510 mile trip...and back 510 miles 2 weeks later...over Christmas. Jacksonville, FL to Biloxi, MS...towed very well for me behind my Trailblazer (6 cylinder).

Cheers,
Jim

Ditto for me on Rich's approach...you can use a boat hook here too - extended to roughly 2x this length.

If I use the wood, I throw it in the tow beast when I rig.

Yep, The wood goes in the tow beast. Problem with the boat hook approach is, what do you do for a boat hook if you launch with the mast down. I was thinking about that when I took the boat out for for motor trials the other day.

Use the wood in the back of the tow beast. :P :D
