Sorry, I read often in your discussion ... white hull and blue hull (so I translate), but what does it mean for me it is hard to understand

it's a joke amongst many Mac owners. The boats are all pretty much the same so some of the owners with blue macs say that the blue color makes their boat faster than the white boats.
I suspect any Mac with a more experience captain will sail much faster than mine.

Actually you have to forgive Doug. He is still relatively new to this board and also relatively new as a Mac owner. All of the more experienced, and dare I say better looking, Mac owners know that it is actually the white hull that is faster. It is very technical and has to do with the reflective properties of the white gel coat versus the color additives in the blue gel coat, the speed of light, the viscosity of the water, etc...
Just thought I would clear up that confusion...

I don't know about the google translator but the Italians I know are all pretty cool. I think Solitario will figure out how much fun we have on this site.
I have very good friend who just left the NATO HQ to become the Commander of the Italian Naval Training Ship that they use for cadets (future officers I think). It is called the
Palinuro. Hoping maybe I can get a trip down to Italy and visit him on his ship.

White
IS a faster color. Blue dyes and pigment will fade in time, and everyone knows white is more
color-fast.
Just try to google at that fact.

Correct...buuuuuutttttt... the blueishness coefficient results has an inverse value that is detrimental to forward velocity. So, in other words, while the blue is slowing you down, the white is allowing the water to flow under you with less effort. Even tho the blue hull is moving, its just slow! Seen it...thru binoculars, looking astern.

Hi BNG: Just finished reading this thread, and as Alice and I just spent a month, for the first time, on our

, I asked the Admiral what her likes and dislikes are re: "THE RESTLESS TWO". The first major dislike is that it takes a fairly long time to prep for sailing and for trailering. We have a furling 150 genoa, and my Admiral is 5'5", 110 lbs, and we work as a team for up and down preparation. The weight of the genny and the mast is such that she has a difficult time helping to move them forward and steadying them for pulpit attatchment. As to the interior, she tells most other sailors that wish to compare, that we have a king sized bed, that no other boat of our size has. We make full meals from scratch, and the propane system also fuels my magma. We found that it was a bit of task handling our 35lb dog up, not down, out of the cabin. We taught her to hop onto the rear, stbd seat, then up with a bit of help from us; problem solved. To those of you that are apprehensive about the daggerboard vs centerboard, we live in very skinny water in NC, like 2-3' at our dock all the time, and very skinny water in our sailing area. All I can say is, know your waters and use sounding always. No backstay, again, does not bother me, sailing in F-5/6 alot of the time, but normally F-2/5. I am sure the engineering is sound. We had some neighbors in Fl that lived aboard a Hunter 26, and it had swept speaders without a backstay. We learned to live with alot less than we took with us, which is a good thing, and through all the miserable weather the first two weeks there, stayed quite dry and warm, using a LASKO heater, that we bought at WM for about $20. It is a small ceramic electric heater that is so efficient, that we had to keep it on the low side in order to not be too hot while we slept. Thanks Jauger 496 and Texas Dan. I have been on the web surfing for about 6 months now. Looked at one mac 26M and several M26x. I think everyone is correct to say know matter what I get, I will be happy with the end result. I have been very discourage with the used boats I have seen. Maybe its all the cosmetic things that just add up. I would definetly wouldnt mind spending 16k rather than 30k anytime. I have owned several used boats in the past and have manage to find something but maybe I just have to bite the bullet and buy new. Not sure right now. All I know is 20 degress here in Maryland and freezing my ...... off and spring is not very far away.

I went from sailing a 14' Phantom for 26 years, to a 26' Mac overnight. A steep learning curve for certain, but a fun one

If buying used definitely give consideration to picking a boat that has the lines led aft...very nice mod to have. And of course some electronics are nice as well.
If buying new don't get too fooled by the $21,500 price. When you add in the engine and all the safety gear, comm gear, nav gear, performance/handling mods, etc... the price can get up above $32K pretty quickly.
